Sailing out of South Beach Harbor, this '91 Beneteau First 38s5 is a retired racing cruiser living her best life in the San Francisco Bay. She's responsive and fast, fun to sail, and can be single handed by experienced sailors (I single hand regularly, all running rigging runs to the cockpit). Equipped with a battened cruising laminate main sail, two reef points, and a dutchman, she's easy to manage in the blustery winds of SF. She's got multiple head sails, but charters with a jib on a roller furler. I've got her set up to be fun and fast to sail in 15-25 kts (I've had her out in 40kts, that just wasn't much fun). With an inboard turbo diesel she's nimble when docking. She's the owners layout with two heads and two cabins, full draft (6ft), teak cockpit, and looks great in instagram photos :). She is a sport racing cruiser and leans more on sport than cruiser with a more narrow beam. She's rated for way more people than what is comfortable unless you are racing. I wouldn't sail with more than 6 people on her. Please include a brief sailing resume when booking (experience level, certifications, etc.). I may require a quick checkout with you depending on your experience. You must have sailing experience to take my boat out. If you just want to sit in the harbor let me know and we can work something out.
We had an excellent experience using Casey's boat. He was very helpful and gave me a lot of good advice before and during our trip. Very consciousness and we would love to rent from him again sometime.
Casey was truly exceptional! From the moment we met him, he impressed us with his knowledge and dedication to ensuring we had a fantastic boat rental experience. He took the time to walk us through the boat, explaining everything thoroughly and making sure we were comfortable with its operation. His guidance on techniques for getting the boat out and safely returning it to the dock was invaluable. Moreover, Casey went above and beyond by offering great suggestions for a lunch spot and reviewing our sail plan, providing us with excellent feedback to make the most of our trip. He was punctual and reliable, meeting us promptly when we returned and assisting with everything we needed.
I have a Beneteau First 38s5 in San Francisco Bay, CA. With >75 days logged on my boat in SF bay, plus my ASA 101/2/3/4 certifications, experience in BVI, etc. I’m an experienced sailor and take great care on every boat I’m on.
You’ll get directions to the departure location when you make a booking.
Full refund up to 5 days prior.
Weather cancellations due to safety (visibility issues/extreme winds) will always be refunded even if made same day. Additionally, I reserve the right to cancel due to weather based on your experience levels (e.g., if the fog is really heavy and you aren't experienced in the fog, or there are 35 kt gusts and you have only sailed a boat of this size 5x). That said, inclement weather falls under regular cancellation policy so plan accordingly. No-show bookings will be charged at full price. If you are late to pick up the boat, just know that it may eat into the time you have if there is another booking after. If you are communicating with me in advance, and I'm not waiting at the harbor, and the boat isn't needed for something else, we can work it out. Don't boat under the influence. It's illegal and dangerous. I have multiple types of PFDs, some are auto inflating PFDs, if any are discharged I may charge you for more canisters. Please treat my boat with respect, treat the bay with respect, and we'll get along fine. This is a bareboat charter, I carry insurance, however I will hold a $1000 deposit for damage via GMB.
