Enjoy an all inclusive Custom Sailing Adventure as we circumnavigate Santa Catalina Island. My charter offers a private and memorable sailing experience to and around Santa Catalina Island or other destination.  My wife Cristina and I will help you learn the lines of sailing and living on a big yacht.  We have designed this adventure around couples to give them a cruisers experience before they jump into their first boat or change of life style to living on a yacht.  Our hope is to build a yachting/cruising relationship with our guest crew to help them fulfill their dreams of yacht ownership and/or cruising.   We give our guest crew a few choices of destination but really it’s up to you on where you would like to go, but as an example here are a few options: - Avalon - Two Harbors - Selected Anchorages - Santa Cruz Island (longer adventures) - or all the above - Even Mexico  Our Santa Catalina Island Sailing starts with your selection of the following: - Night motor sail - Early morning departure (day-sail) With all that said, now imagine yourself sailing along the Pacific coast in a beautiful blue water sailing yacht that is designed for deep blue water sailing and equipped with all the safety and navigation feathers needed to cross an ocean.  Imagine that same sailing yacht with all the comforts of home and you will be onboard Vision.  A Tayana 48 CC Bluewater cruiser. Basically, this adventure is for the sailor or beginner that wants to take the next step from dreaming about freedom, sailing beautiful remote ports to experiencing coastal cruising on a blue water cruiser. Step aboard a legendary Tayana 48 CC,  a blue water cruiser and enjoy a 3 or more-day excursion that will give you the experience of what modern day sailors have been enjoying while sailing around the world. This sailing adventure is for the couple that wants the hands-on learning experience of sailing from port to port and building the knowledge and experience needed to take the next step in their sailing career, or those who would like to stick their toe in the water in reference to cruising big boats.  But be warned this not a catering charter, it's all hands on deck.  Your involved in every step of the adventure from safety checks, provisioning, cooking, manning the helm to navigating and plotting... but have no fear, Cristina and I will be with you every step of the way working together as a team.  The Catalina sailing route takes approximately 8 to 10 hours to reach Avalon, depending on your selected destination and sailing plan.  Sailing to Catalina from Mission Bay can be split with an overnight stay in Dana Point or a night time motor sail to Avalon. The majority of the time, “nighttime motor sails” are normally calm with the sea magically lit by the moon and stars when full and clear skies permit. You will see the coastal lights dip into the distant horizon while sailing up to 40 miles offshore. The skies become alive with the lights of the stars shining brightly into the horizon. It’s one of my favorite times to be on watch. Also, departing in the morning and following the coast line makes for a great sail to Dana Point for an over night stay in Dana Point Harbor. Vision offers comfortable and excellent sleeping conditions. If you’re not on watch, you will want to be up and about to have breakfast while Santa Catalina Island comes into view off our port side.  This view of Santa Catalina Island is spectacular!  The island at sunrise from this vantage point is a special event that few get to experience. My adventures provide a safe and enjoyable sailing adventure on a yacht designed for high seas, keeping you safe and comfortable. Let Vision, Cristina and myself ready you for your dreams of cruising for a small fraction of the cost of ownership. Remember, no matter the plan, everything is included (Captain, Firstmate, food, drinks (beer and wine), all “port of call” fees and fuel), not included is port of call “in town” dinning and attractions. Lastly and most important, come ready to sail and ready for the most wonderful adventure ever... see you onboard! Send us a request to see if we are available on your preferred date.  If you have any questions, we can answer those through GetMyBoat’s messaging platform before you pay. Just hit, “Request to Book” and send us an inquiry for a custom offer! FAQ: How far out should we schedule? As far out as you like or as early as you like.  Providing Vision is available. Can we explore the destinations?  For sure! Cristina and I enjoy hiking and venturing out to the peeks of the hills tops.  You can join us or map your own island adventure. Can we go swimming or snorkeling?  Absolutely!  I’m a diver and I sometimes make arrangements to dive.  Cristina loves to snorkel and swim along the cliffs to view marine life. But the water is on the cold side, so if you have a wet suit, bring it.  If you’re a diver, I supply the tanks and weights but I’m not an instructor or a dive master, so use caution.  I’ll want to know more about your diving experience before we depart. Are there any certifications associated with your sailing instruction?  No, we are not certifying during this adventure.  However, I do offer ASA certifications on other boats.  If you have an ASA log book, I'm happy to record the entries for this experience. Can we choose not to man the ship or be involved with the operations?  Yes, but no guest services will be provided.  Crew will be busy sailing and performing operations as needed. When do we depart? That depends on your schedule.  But we do meet the day before departure to review safety procedures, safety systems and to complete provisioning. What foods do we shop for?  That’s up to the breakfast, lunch and dinners we plan to eat onboard together.  You will be given a debt card to buy the foods and drinks you want.  Remember, in town dinning is at your expense. Who will be doing the cooking?  Each crew member will have a turn or two at preparing meals based on the menu we build as a team… you are part of the crew. What food do you and Cristina like? We are not picky eaters, meats, fish and chicken work. We can also, eat vegan or vegetarian.  We are not big on the fatty snacks but don’t let that stop you from buying what you like. What clothing should we bring?  Pack light!  But it depends on the season.  Jackets are always needed.  Keep in mind your on a boat so you don’t need anything fancy or dressy.  Even for the in town dinning, it’s very casual.  If you’re going to hike the island bring the right foot wear and clothing.  Sailing days are board-shorts or the like and a t-shirt and sweater.  If you are out in town in the evening you might need pants from Feb - May. What personal safety equipment should I bring?  All sailors should have a “ditch-bag” that includes but not limited to the following items: - Personal Flotation Device (PFD) - Flashlight (not your phone) - Whistle attached to your PFD - A strobe light attached to your PFD - Personal First Aid kit The above is recommended but we do have all this onboard as well. So please do not think you need to buy anything. But if you have your own bring it. Will I get sea sick? Maybe, if your not on the water much and are sensitive to motion you might get sea sick. Best practices: - Avoid anything overly spicy, acidic or fatty and try not to overeat or overdo it on the alcohol before you board the boat.  - Eat lighter meals and add peppermint and ginger to your diet, they are great natural remedies to help reduce the risk of seasickness. What will the weather be like?  Hard to say and we never know for sure until we get ready to depart.  But I’ll be monitoring conditions starting 1 week before departure.  I have not had to reschedule charters of this type based on weather, but If conditions are stormy, the charter is rescheduled or our refund policies will be applied. What are the refund policies?  If I have to cancel for any reason than 100% refunded.  If you cancel for any reason 50% refunded. Do you require COVID vaccinations or COVID testing? No, but Cristina and I will be tested 72 hours prior to your arrival.
