This is a three-hour captained charter for groups up to six aboard a classic sailing yacht. We'll greet you at the dock at the foot of Market Street in historic downtown Wilmington, and welcome you aboard our classic ketch, S/V Maia. After a brief safety talk, we'll cast off the lines and raise canvas for a daysail on the still-wild Cape Fear River. Where exactly we sail depends on wind and tide. We may head south to the wide waters near the State Port, observing ships visiting from around the globe, or we could venture north into the main branch, where Gullah history is steeped into the muddy banks. Wherever we go, we'll keep a sharp lookout for local wildlife: ospreys, egrets and herons, sturgeon, gar, American Alligators, and the occasional bottlenose dolphin. Your knowledgeable captain will be happy to answer any questions about the nature and history of the region, and perhaps entertain you with a sea story or two. What you do is up to you: help us steer the boat and handle the sails, or leave it to us and relax with a cold drink in hand. When we return to the dock, you'll have a new appreciation for our Port City. Wilmington is best seen from the water. Actual sailing times will vary based on wind, weather and tide; once your date is reserved, we will coordinate closely with you to choose the best time based on predicted conditions and scheduling constraints. We look forward to sailing with you! If you have any questions, we can answer those through GetMyBoat’s messaging platform before you pay.
