Frequetly Asked Questions

Is it safe for a novice to take a boat out?

Our Boating Safety and Small Boat Operation course are designed to allow both novices and experienced boaters to safely operate our boats in the waters of Boston Harbor. We give you a complete review of the Rules of the Road, Coast Guard safety requirement, safe boating practices, local and federal boating rules and regulations, plus a thorough check out on the boats' controls, and time behind the wheel with an instructor. The boats are designed to be easy to control and there are very few obstacles to having to worry about.

Will we get lost?

Lost - adj. (1) strayed or missing (2) no longer visible. No, you won't get "lost" but might get a little disoriented at times. Especially on those days when you set out to find that cool little island you've heard of or that snorkeling spot someone recommended to you. But with a little patience you will find your way and no you won't end up on "Gilligan's Island". We recommend taking our Basic Navigation course as an ideal way to learn or review interpreting charts and navigating within site of land. The course takes a tour of Boston Harbor on one of our boats, pointing out places to go and things to do, as well as understanding navigation aids. We review anchoring principles and anchor off one of the islands for a lunch (don't forget to bring one) before returning. Afterwards you can feel confident about renting one of our boats and setting off on your own.

Do we have enough gas for today?

Your boat will be full of gas at the beginning of your rental, and that will be sufficient fuel for a full day of boating. Our boats have large gas tanks (for their size), and refueling is usually only necessary after several days on the water. However, you should always check the gas gauge before leaving the dock

This is an amazing trip! Unforgettable birthday experience!

I planned my friends birthday with him in Boston where as I live in Sydney. So I was worried all the time about how things will be because it was a surprise party. But Don took care of everything. Tbh I cant imagine to be more perfect then it was. There is no doubt, Don is really helpful, and there was not a single moment where I fell like Don is tired of my fluctuations again and again in dates, number of people etc . And when I asked people how was the trip they all were so happy and couldn't stop thanking me but all the credits goes to Don. I highly recommend you all, spend a day onboard with Don if you ever plan to rent a boat.

Captain Don was absolutely wonderful! We had an amazing time exploring the Boston Bay. Highly recommend!

I was extremely disappointed in the customer service. Don was very inconsistent from the time I booked my trip until my trip was completed. After I booked my desired time, he called to have me switch the time, to only then go back to my original time the week of my trip without proper notice and with an argumentative tone. The details of the food and drink packages were not clear. I was unaware that we'd have a server on board. Which made gratuity impossible because Don insisted on "cash only" and our group only bought enough cash for the price of the food/ drink package. Don was very unprofessional and rude during our trip. The way he spoke to me when there were times of miscommunication was unacceptable. He also had a dog on the boat that I was unaware of and someone in my party was allergic. This was NOT said to me prior to booking. Not to mention the inside cabin smelt like a wet dog and there was dog hair everywhere, including our cups we were served drinks in. However, I will say his helper, the lady that served us was very pleasant and helpful. I would not book with or recommend Don and his charter to anyone!
