To ensure a safe and enjoyable time on the water, please review the following rules and guidelines for operating the vessel: 🛥️ General Rules 1. Captain’s Authority: The captain has full authority over the vessel and passenger safety. Please follow all instructions promptly. 2. Boater Card Requirement: Anyone operating the boat must be 25+ years old or possess a valid California Boater Card (if applicable). 3. Alcohol & Drug Use: Operating the boat under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly prohibited and illegal. 4. Maximum Capacity: Do not exceed the posted passenger limit. (Ex: 7 people without captain, 6 with captain onboard.) 5. Weather Conditions: Operation is weather-dependent. Unsafe conditions may result in trip delays or cancellation. ______ Motor Lift / Trim Basics When Driving on the Lake • The motor (outboard or stern drive) should be fully down or slightly trimmed up for smoother handling and better control. • Keeping the motor down ensures the propeller is fully in the water, which gives you better steering and speed. • Trimming too high while moving can cause the boat to bounce (“porpoising”) or lose steering control. When Approaching or Leaving the Dock • As you come in slowly, keep the motor mostly down for control, but be ready to trim/lift slightly if the water is shallow near the dock or ramp to avoid hitting the propeller. • If you know it’s shallow, raise the motor just enough to clear the bottom—don’t lift it all the way out while still moving, or you’ll lose steering. When at the Dock or on the Trailer • Lift the motor up once you’re stopped and secured, especially if you’re in shallow water or tying up overnight. • On the trailer, the motor should be fully lifted to avoid damage when towing. ⸻ 🛟 Safety Guidelines 1. Life Jackets: Coast Guard-approved life jackets are provided. Children under 13 must wear a life jacket at all times. (Located on the boat) 2. Emergency Equipment: Fire extinguishers, throwable flotation, and first aid kits are onboard and must remain accessible. 3. No Swimming While Engine is On: Always shut off the engine before anyone enters the water. 4. No Standing While Boat is Moving: Remain seated while the boat is in motion to avoid injury. 5. Towing Rules (if skiing/tubing) - Use an orange skier-down flag when boat is stopped and someone is in the water. •Always have an observer in addition to the driver when someone is in the water and boat is off. ⸻ 🏖️ Operation Etiquette 1. Respect Wildlife & Wake Zones: Follow all posted speed limits and be mindful of no-wake zones. 2. Avoid Shallow Areas: Do not beach the boat or operate in areas with submerged hazards. 3.
