FAQ's:

Trip Style / Which style of trip is right for me?

Answer: The destination is the biggest difference between our trips.Culebra is an island about 18 miles away from the coast. Our trips to Culebra are aboard our high speed power catamarans, not the sailing catamarans. You should know how to swim and be comfortable in the water, as it can be about 50-60 feet to swim into the beach. The snorkeling sites in Culebra are also in deeper water, ranging from 5 to up to 30 feet deep.Icacos is a small uninhabited island just 3 miles from the shore. We offer this trip primarily on the sailing catamarans, but also we often can use the power catamarans for this trip.  We are able to anchor up close (in about waist deep water) to the beach at Icacos island, so you do not have to be a strong swimmer. The snorkeling sites in this area are shallower, in about 5 to 15 feet of water.

Are trips physically demanding?

Answer: Generally they are not, however guests should know how to swim and be comfortable in the water. Some guests who are non-swimmers might opt to stay onboard the boat and watch the fish through our underwater windows.   Upon making a reservation, you must inform us if anybody in your group has any back or heart problems or is pregnant, as the power boat trips can be bumpy as we ride over the open water.

Travelling with Children / Does Excursions have family trips?

Answer: Yes, children are welcome aboard our trips!  (However, we do not recommend the Culebra trip or Vieques trip for children under three).  Any of our trips to Icacos are well-suited for children of all ages!  Your kids will especially love the water-slide and the underwater windows on our sailing catamaran East Wind. For the adventurous little tines – we have kids snorkeling gear, and our crew can give instructions in the shallow waters at the beach.

Group Trip Information / Does East Island offer any private trips?

Answer: Any of our catamarans are available to charter privately for your special event! They all have different capacities. We can tailor your trip to suit your needs, whether you want something simple or a BBQ lunch with open bar or an upscale sunset dinner party.

How many people will be on my trip?

Answer: This will depend on which catamaran you will be on.  Weekends tend to find the boats more full than weekdays, and slow season also tends to find the boats less full.  But the numbers can vary. For smaller capacity we have the Zatara sailing catamaran or the Eco Isleño power cat.

Are there age restrictions on your trips?

Answer: We do not allow children under the age of three on our Culebra or Vieques trips, and as well but welcome all ages aboard our trip to Icacos!

What do I need to bring?

Answer: Towels * sunblock * wear a swimsuit under light beach clothing * sunglasses * hat *, and don’t forget to bring your camera!  But if you forgot to bring any of these things don’t worry - you can purchase them upon check in. We have underwater cameras also available on board the boats for sale.

Can I just do part of the trip?

Answer: Our trips leave the dock at Puerto del Rey Marina, and return to the same location. We generally cannot drop you off at any other location.

Can I bring my own snorkel gear?

Answer: You are welcome to bring your own gear. Many people are used to their own mask and snorkel, (but there is not discount for that).

Single Travellers / I'm travelling alone - is that OK?

Answer: Of course! You are certain to meet people and make new friends, as our guests come from many different parts of the world, and are a mix of all ages.  especially after you’ve had a few rums!

Weather (When to travel) / What is the best time of year to travel? What is the weather expected to be like in my chosen destination at the time I want to travel?

Answer: Any time of year is a great time to join us for a tour! The water is a bit cooler (around 78°F or 26°C) from October to March and warmer (86°F or 30°C). The water conditions can be a bit choppier to Culebra and Vieques during the winter time.  August through November is “hurricane season”, but any tropical storm can be predicted up to a week in advance.

Food & Drink / What will the food be like on my trip?

Answer: We offer a full lunch buffet with fresh baked bread from a local bakery; deli-sliced meats and cheeses; lettuce & tomatoes,  assorted salads (gourmet pasta salad, chicken salad, chick pea salad, and tropical coleslaw); fresh fruits; chips; and cookies. Everything except for our bread, pasta salad and cookies is gluten free and only the chicken salad and the platter meat have meat. If you have selected one of our BBQ lunch trips there will be hamburgers, chicken breast and hot dogs that would replace the cold cut platter.
