On the east coast of Puerto Rico is the city and gem Fajardo. It’s a sunny paradise that attracts visitors from all over looking to relax in the heat and enjoy some of the fantastic nature and eco-tours available. It’s known as the city that guards the sun of the Caribbean, with plenty of warm weather and perfect conditions for catching a tan.
The best time of year to visit Fajardo is during the springtime, from April through June, before the oppressive humidity and hurricane season descends upon this part of the Caribbean. Winter months of December through the end of March are expensive due to spring break and holiday travel with northerners escaping the cold. If you’re traveling during hurricane season, it’s a good idea to invest in travel insurance in case you need to cancel your trip.
To get to Fajardo, catch a flight to the airport in capital city San Juan. From here, it’s a 45-minute drive. Taxis are reasonable on Puerto Rico, but renting a car is also helpful for getting around Driving is intense, so be vigilant when driving on the highways. Fajardo itself is a small enough city to maneuver on foot or by taxis easily.
A great sail to Icacos with no one else in the water during my snorkel which was appreciated by the barracuda and the octopus. Then a relaxed meal cooked on board by the Puerto Rican Bobby Flay 😉 Drinks were perfect too. Time for more swimming or leaving on the pad but we chose to just enjoy the views and sun on the sun back it was mostly wind power slowing even more appreciation of the trip, the wind and waves, and just enough local information. Def the antithesis to big tours or overdone sails
I booked this excursion to celebrate my 25th birthday with a group of 5 and we thoroughly enjoyed this charter. From the beginning, Captain Ívan was very gracious and personable. He and his boatmate escorted us to the boat and gave clear instructions on how to maneuver around the catamaran and what all we would encounter. The initial sail out to the island was nice and smooth, we enjoyed the ride and played Heads Up from our mobile device until we reached. Once we arrived, we docked out in the water as opposed to docking near shore (which is optional depending on your party). A large lilly pad, snorkeling gear, and pool noodles were provided to us for safety and comfort out in the water. We were in about 18-20 feet of water and using the snorkeling gear we were able to see lots of fish beneath us. We also had the pleasure of seeing some sea turtles while we were docked as well. We were provided with beers, sangrias, and sodas as we relaxed out in the water. A well prepared lunch was made for us. We really enjoyed the hot meal (grilled chicken, rice, salad) as opposed to prepackaged chicken wraps or sandwiches. On our sail back, we sat on the front of the boat and enjoyed the beautiful views and big waves. Captain Ívan and his boatmate were great hosts. I would definitely book again! Thank you guys for an awesome charter!
