This area is home to expansive grass flats, oyster bars, and mangroves that are fed by the state’s largest open-water estuary and the Gulf of Mexico. Here you will find opportunities to catch redfish, seatrout, snook, tarpon, black drum, flounder, grouper, sharks, and a plethora of others. This area is known to hold over 200 species of fish and has great year-round fishing. Tarpon Fishing This part of Florida’s coast becomes the epicenter of Tarpon fishing during the annual migration. Between May and lasting all the way through to the end of October Tarpon swarm St. Pete’s inshore waters and beach fronts. While peak season is considered to be between June and July, there is ample opportunity to go after the Silver King, chasing down schools of baitfish, through most of the migration. Tarpon range in size from 10lbs to over 200 lbs and are ready to put up a battle. These are hard fighting fish with a mouth like armor that makes for both a challenge and action-packed excitement. Nearshore Fishing Just off St. Pete Beach lies an amazing nearshore fishery. These charters can bring you in on some amazing offshore quality fish without the hours-long boat ride. In this area kingfish, spanish mackerel, grouper, and snapper are all on the menu. In just 35-40 feet of water, you can be well on your way to filling a cooler or making Florida memories with epic battles. Whether it be a Gag Grouper putting your arms to the test, a big cobia looking to peel some drag, or a bottom-feeding frenzy with snapper – St. Pete Beach has you covered.
