Canoe Trips & Lessons in Saskatoon, Canada

    Estimated price
    USD $365 / person

Urban canoe camping is a minor misnomer; urban only refers to the proximity of the canoe trip to the largest urban centre in Saskatchewan, not to the character of this trip. The beauty of the South Saskatchewan River, a mere 30 or so kilometres upstream of Saskatoon, is the wilderness-like aura that pervades the valley. The wildlife is plentiful; the wooded slopes and coulees obscure the agricultural activity on the uplands; the scenery is inspiring, and the peace and serenity is rejuvenating. The river channel consists of glacial till covered by a thick layer of fine sand that is constantly being shifted to and fro by the variable current. At lower levels, usually in mid-summer, many sand bars surface creating lots of natural beaches – great for wading and swimming as a refreshing break from paddling on a summer canoe trip. Paddling as a kid at summer camp got Cliff hooked on canoeing for life. He took up Nordic skiing when he moved from his home town of Winnipeg to teach high school in northern Manitoba. Cliff left the teaching profession a few years later to explore other career options. After several years working in the business world and a company transfer to Saskatoon, he moved from the work world into entrepreneurship with the launching of Company, an eco-adventure company specializing in wilderness canoeing and cross-country skiing instruction and tours. Prior to this, Cliff had spent a lot of his spare time volunteering as instructor and trip leader with the local canoeing and Nordic skiing clubs in Saskatoon. His experience teaching, working in business, and volunteering has all contributed to running a successful adventure training and travel company.
