We are a fully recognised RYA Training Centre offering a full range of RYAMCA practical and shorebased sailing courses and holidays all year round. From beginner to expert, Faro Sailing School offers all levels of coaching for sailing.p pThe school is run by the Principal and Chief Instructor, Peter Lightfoot and his wife, Lorie. Peter and Lorie have a wealth of experience of running an RYA sailing school having successfully run Ibiza Sailing School in the Balearics for five years prior to setting up Faro Sailing School in the Algarve, now in its twelfth year of operation.p pPeter is a fully qualified RYAMCA Yachtmaster Ocean, Yachtmaster Instructor and an Examiner. There is not much that Peter doesnacutet know about boats having been sailing and involved with boats all of his life.p pItacutes as if he were born with a mainsheet in one hand and a tiller in the other.p pOne of our students once said of Peter "Itacutes as if he were born with the mainsheet in one hand and the tiller in the other".p pBy the age of twelve, Peter was a competitive dinghy sailor and at the age of twenty-one became a professional Skipper of large sailing yachts, and has gained a wealth of experience sailing in the Caribbean and the Mediterranean including several transatlantic passages between the two.p pFor the last 17 years, Peter has been teaching RYA sailing courses on a full-time basis.p pLorie, originally with a corporate background in IT, is also a fully qualified RYAMCA Yachtmaster Ocean and teaches shorebased courses. A former Cruising Instructor with over 10,000 miles under her belt, Lorie has now hung up her sailing boots temporarily to raise a family.p pLorie is responsible for administration and will be more than happy to book your course or charter, arrange any shorebased accommodation you may need and help you with any queries you might have. She will ensure everything runs smoothly for you from the time you arrive until the time you leave for your journey home. The marina is right in the heart of Vila Real de Santo Antonio and so enjoys ample facilities including showers, restaurants, shops, banks and free car parking. With several waterside cafeacute bars, it is an excellent place to relax after a great days sailing.p pOur unique location, on the border between two very different countries provides a perfect base from which to explore the many lovely anchorages, estuaries and marinas along the Portuguese and Spanish coastlines. Gibraltar, Morocco and the Mediterranean are just round the corner providing great variety for our milebuilding weeks.p
