There’s something about being on the water that feels like both a calling and a home. For me, it’s never been just a place—it’s a purpose. As a licensed captain and a full‑time active‑duty Coast Guard boatswain’s mate, I’ve spent more than 2,000 hours underway as a coxswain, and every one of those hours has shaped who I am. But the real reason I love being on the water is the mission. Search and rescue, law enforcement, protecting lives and enforcing the rules that keep people safe—those aren’t just tasks. They’re responsibilities I take personally. When I’m at the helm, I know that what I do matters in a very real, immediate way. Someone’s worst day might be the day I’m called to respond, and I don’t take that lightly. Being on the water isn’t just my job. It’s where I feel most capable, most grounded, and most alive.
