Captain Jay Keeney has always enjoyed being on the water. As a child, he imagined living aboard a sailboat and exploring the seas decades before he ever set foot on a sailboat. In college, he bought a kayak (prior to ever kayaking) knowing he would enjoy it as it brought together two of his passions; boating and the outdoors. Captain Jay now holds an Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessel (OUPV 6-PACK) license with the United States Coast Guard.

Frequently Asked Questions • **COVID-19 UPDATE** The safety of our crew and passengers is very important to us. We will be taking steps to follow guidance set forth by the CDC in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. The City of Charleston has passed a new mandatory mask ordinance effective July 1st 2020 so we ask that our guests wear face masks when they arrive at the Marina and while on the property including while using the restrooms and walking to the vessel. Guests may remove face masks while we are on the water. The vessel will be cleaned in between outings and hand sanitizer is available for guests, before, during and after the outing. • Where to Park: The Harborage at Ashley River Marina does not allow charter guests to park in their parking lot, doing so may result in a ticket or towing. Below are a few options to consider: 1) Take an Uber or Taxi to The Harborage at Ashley River Marina (33 Lockwood Drive, Charleston SC). Note, please mention to your Uber driver that they should take you to The Harborage at Ashley River Marina, not Safe Harbor Charleston City Marina. The Harborage at Ashley River Marina is immediately after The Hilton Garden Inn on Lockwood drive. 2) Guests have the option of being picked up (from one location) and dropped off (at one location) anywhere on the Charleston Peninsula for $20 3) If you drive, you must park at 17 Lockwood Drive and walk to 33 Lockwood. After you park at 17 Lockwood (paid parking) walk up towards the street you just came from (Lockwood Drive) and you will find a concrete sidewalk. Take the concrete sidewalk (not wooden dock) immediately next to Lockwood Drive to the left and walk about 5-10 minutes to 33 Lockwood. You’ll walk under a few overpasses and my marina will be your first left after you walk under the overpasses. 17 Lockwood and 33 Lockwood do not connect via the docks, you must take the concrete sidewalk immediately along Lockwood drive. While the concrete sidewalk appears to end, continue walking under the overpass. If the above is not clear simply put in 33 Lockwood Drive into your map app and choose the “walk” option. Regardless of where you park, I would recommend using the bathroom in the building at the Marina parking lot, second floor. I do have a head on-board but most people prefer the one on land. • Bathroom Door Code: 1435 (Roman Numerals: I IV III V) • Where To Meet The Captain: When you arrive at The Harborage, walk out towards the boat and meet your Captain at the picnic table seen in the image below. Please aim to arrive at least 20 minutes prior to your scheduled charter. • What To Bring: Feel free to bring any snacks or drinks that you would like. Adults 21 years or older may bring alcoholic beverages. Please avoid bringing any glass aboard and always be responsible. I will not be drinking or providing any alcohol but you can bring some for yourself. I’ll have water on-board. • What to Wear: Generally it is a few degrees cooler on the water. Spray from the water may get you wet, but you will not get soaked. A light jacket, hat and sunglasses are a good idea. I recommend closed shoes over flip flops. You can go barefoot but there are a million things to jam your toes on. • What to Expect: All charters will start with a 15 minute safety speech once all passengers are on-board. While the boat is setup to be sailed single-handed, if you and your group would like to get involved (raise a sail, hold the helm, etc) I’m happy to oblige. If you prefer to sit back and relax that is fine too. • Weather: Please assume that the charter is on unless you hear otherwise. If there is a chance of thunderstorms/lightning/excessive wind, the captain will reach out to you at least 3 hours prior to the scheduled charter time. A lack of wind may result in leaving the motor on. • Cancellations or Rescheduling: Cancellations or Rescheduling will only take place due to weather. Customers will receive a full refund in case of operator cancellation due to weather. No-shows will be charged the full price.
