The Fishing Charter, Blue Lightning III Blue Lightning III is a 55ft Conquest charter vessel powered by a V10 820 HP Doosan engine. Blue Lightning was first launched in 1993 and named First Light and was originally sent to work as a crayboat out of Fremantle. Later in 2000 it was purchased by Captain Tony Merrutio and renamed Crustacea 3. Tony cray fished the boat between Jurien Bay and Bunbury fishing 112 pots. At the end of the 2005 crayfish season Bill and Chad Mills purchased Crustacea and renamed her Blue Lightning III and thats not the only change they made. With 38 years knowledge of the charter industry between them they went to work setting Blue Lightning up into a very comfortable and practical charter vessel which now operates between Mandurah and Dampier Blue Lightning now has all the latest electronics including: > C Plot computer GPS system > 1100L Furuno Coloured Sounder > Auto Pilot > VHF/HF > SAT Phone > Internet  In 2006 Blue Lightning had a new 9KVA Yanmar Genset fitted to keep up with all the 240V supply needs and in November 2007 was repowered by a V10 820 hp Doosan Diesel giving her a cruising speed of 17-18 knots and top speed of 22 knots. Accommodation Blue Lightning has 8 comfortable bunks downstairs which is air conditioned. CD Player, DVD, VCR and a 61cm Flatscreen TV to keep you entertained when not battling the big one. Also 2 toilets and showers with hot water, 240V power and enough fridge and freezer space to keep all supplies and your catch cold.  From the Montebello Islands to Abrolhos Island on the Western Australian coast, we can cater you the fishing (and sightseeing) trip of a lifetime. Due to the remote-ness, the fishing here is exceptional with a vast array of species on offer ranging from mud crabs to marlin and everything in between – red emperor, coral trout, rankin cod, spangled emperor, Spanish mackerel, Giant Trevally, wahoo, sailfish and blue, black and striped marlin, just to name a few. We strive to deliver you the fishing experience of a lifetime. Fishing is our passion, we live and breathe it — even on our days off we are still out on the water fishing! Blue Lightning Charters is a family owner/operator run business, together between us we have had many years experience on the waters of Western Australia. We are focused on providing high-quality service and customer satisfaction and we will do everything we can to meet your expectations. We fish all year round in the best locations Western Australia has to offer! The Montebello Islands are an archipelago of around 174 small islands off the Pilbara coast of north-western Australia. Aptly named Montebello which is Italian for “beautiful mountain”, the islands form a conservation park administered by the Western Australian Department of Environment and Conservation. Montebello Islands fishing is extraordinary as is the incredible scenery in this spectacular area. Western Australia’s Montebello Islands- Fishing Paradise The Montebello Islands were the site of three nuclear weapons tests during the 1950s (but these days the radiation levels are safe for visitors). Due to their remote nature, the islands offer virtually untouched beauty with many surrounded by white sandy beaches, barrier and fringing coral reefs, lagoons and channels with aquamarine waters that are home to a diverse range marine animals including more than 450 species of fish! Dugongs also forage among the seagrass and seaweed beds and more than 10 different species of whales and dolphins frequent the area. Western Australia’s Abrolhos Island The Abrolhos Islands are located approximately 60 kilometres west of Geraldton, on the Western Australian coast and are made up of 122 islands clustered into three main groups extending over 100 kilometres north to south which are the Wallabi Group, Easter Group and Pelsaert Group. The Abrolhos are in the stream of the Leeuwin Current which runs from North West Cape at Exmouth, south along the WA coast to Cape Leeuwin where it curls eastward along South Australia and flowing all the way to Tasmania. The current creates a meeting place for tropical and temperate marine life and is the southernmost place where true corals will be found in WA. It also means that the water temperature at the Abolhos is often several degrees warmer than on the coast itself which means that tropical species thrive here – providing us with fantastic reef fishing as well as sport and marlin fishing a little further offshore. While the fishing at the Abrolhos Island is out of this world – there is much more to the islands to enjoy than the great fishing – its also know for great surfing as well as snorkelling, diving and even bird watching. Fishing in Mandurah Mandurah is a vibrant regional city just an hour’s drive south of Perth. Once a small fishing village that boomed during holiday periods, it is now a thriving hub year round. Blue Lightning has fished the Mandurah area for over 10 years now and its this experience that we bring to our guests on board. We’ve built up a great variety of spots and have even better understanding of the fishing in the area. Fishing in Mandurah can see you targeting species such as the WA dhu fish, Break sea cod, Pink Snapper, Red Snapper, Queen Snapper, King George whiting, and plenty of other fish.
