Frequently Asked Questions

Where do we board the boat?

All boats are slipped in various locations around the Marina Cabo San Lucas. C

At what time do we meet the boat?

We ask you to meet staff approximately 15 minutes prior to charter departure time. Boats leave the marina from 6:30-7:30 am. Specific information on your charter is provided in confirmation papers.

What techniques do your crews use to catch fish?

Our crews take an oath of safety for our clients. They will work hard to find you fish. They will do what is necessary to maintain the boat and equipment properly functioning and operational. They will do their best to understand what you say to them. Most captains and mates have the ability to speak and understand some English. They are more comfortable speaking their native language of Spanish and appreciate any effort made to speak to them. All of our crews fantastic fish English!

What is an all inclusive charter?

All inclusive charter will include API fee, fishing licenses, ten live bait (As available), food and beverages and round transportation Hotel-Marina-Hotel (Sundays is only one-way transportation Hotel Marina) in our new air-conditioned vehicles. Crew gratuity is not included.

What is API fee?

The organization "API" owns the sportfishing dock and charges a fee for each person to board a boat slipped in their area. Boats that leave from a private slip in the Marina Cabo San Lucas are not charged this fee.

Do I have to bring tackle?

All of our boats are outfitted with the tackle required to fish our waters. Some guests enjoy using a personal setup. You may bring your own if you wish.

Is the boat chartered to us or do we share the boat with others?

The majority of guests wish to charter their boat exclusively. We find this to be the arrangement most often requested. Some folks enjoy spending a full day on the water with newly made friends. We have found it best to leave that decision to you. Our staff in Cabo can assist you in successfully finding someone to share a boat with. From time to time we receive an advance request for sharing, however, it rarely is on the very same date.

What happens to the fish we catch?

We encourage catch, revive and release of billfish during nontournament fishing. Eating fish such as Tuna, Dorado, Wahoo, Red Snapper, Grouper, etc. can all be cleaned and filleted to enjoy. The rules set forth by Fish and Game and all governing authorities are followed by our fleet. These rules change from time to time so we cannot state what rules change from to time so we cannot state what rule might be in force at a particular time. Charter our boats are currently required to bring clients and their fish to the fillet station at the Sportfishing Dock. The fees for this service generally depends on the size of the fish. A few dollars for a small fish is typical and larger fish requiring more service time are charged accordingly. This is not something we have any control over. We follow the rules as set forth by these agencies who permit us to operate our business in legitimate fashion.

Can we drink alcohol on the boat?

Our primary concern is your safety. We do not permit hard liquor onboard for a day of sportfishing. We thank you for your anticipated cooperation and understanding. If you wish to indulge in refreshments while on the water we suggest you try one of the "booze cruise" tours available at the Sportfishing Dock or Marina Principale. Our staff can assist you with these arrangements on request.

Is there anything we need to bring with us?

We remind guests to bring personal items for sunscreen and sun protection. The UV index is generally quite high. The reflection of the water will add to sun exposure. A camera to capture "Kodak" moments is always a good idea! It might not be a bad idea to have some tissues just in case the toilet paper is all used up. Though we do everything we can to ensure a well stocked boat, sometimes TP is inadvertently overlooked.

Is there a best time for certain species of fish I am targeting?

Our annual fish chart indicates when a particular species is known to be in our region. Our waters are visited year round by most species. Each calendar year we are surprised by the catch of a species not known to be available at that particular time. The Athletes of the Ocean you seek to refuse to follow any monthly calendar and arrive and depart when they are moved to... inspired by moon phases, tides, water temperature changes and bait availability.

What will the seas be like when I want to go fishing?

Difficult to impossible to answer with accuracy. Usually, we have calm seas to 3' to 5'. Sometimes winds from the north are hit by a high or low originating in California which creates smooth waters. Sometimes what we experienced for numerous prior years changes with no explanation other than "that nature".

Can I leave fish with the crew?

A generous gesture and most sincerely appreciated by all crews. The captains and mates are working, not fishing recreationally, therefore, their families do not benefit from the bounty of the waters as often as one might think. Remember the old "Shoemakers children have no shoes" fable? Please keep in mind that if you choose to leave fish as part of a gratuity, the crew will also appreciate a gratuity.
