Enjoy Canoe Tours on Whanganui River in Hikumutu, Manawatu-Wanganui

Enjoy canoeing on Whanganui River in Hikumutu, Manawatu-Wanganui! The Whanganui River: The Whanganui River is the third longest river in AOTEAROA (NEW ZEALAND). It originates as an alpine stream high on Mt Tongariro, gaining strength from waters flowingfrom Mt Ngauruhoe and Mt Ruapehu. It then descends through the Central Volcanic Plateau towards Taumarunui, and then sweeps to the southwest towards Whanganui and the Tasman Sea. Trip Information: The Whanganui River Canoe Journey is a great adventure for all. Our trips are ideal for those wishing to have a relaxing holiday, but include enough challenges to create a fun experience. It’s a great chance to really get away from it all for a few days in perfect remoteness. No telephones... no televisions. Just you and nature. We cater for a great variety of people from all age groups with the emphasis on enjoyment; so a moderate level of fitness is all that is required for the Whanganui River Canoe/Kayak journeys. Trips by length of Journey: • One Day Journey: The 4 hours trip is available with or without a navigator which starts in Taumarunui and finishes in Ohinepane. It covers 22 km, shooting 49 rapids, some small ones to some heart pumping ones; great waterfalls and you will be travelling through farmland, along the way which incorporates gorgeous scenic bush areas. Two hours paddling downstream is where you enter the Whanganui National Park. • Two Day Journey You can take a two-day leisurely paddle from Taumarunui to Whakahoro, making the most of the exciting rapids, wildlife and beautiful scenery of the upper reaches, then on the second day is where you come into more great waterfalls, always amazing scenery and outstanding rock formations. • Three Day Journey:  Leaving from Whakahoro, this three day trip moves through the river gorges with beautiful scenery and native wildlife in the Whanganui National Park. The first day of this journey isnot for the faint hearted, it takes just over an hour drive to the starting point at Whakahoro, pack your boats, then you have a 7 hours paddle to John Coull Hut. It can be too much for families or older people. • Four Day Journey (Recommended): This trip starts at Ohinepane a 20 Minute Drive down river from Taumarunui (which means you miss a lot of rapids, but not all the amazing scenery). Travel through farmland, fantastic rock formations, abounding water falls, and you're in the Whanganui National Park which you stay in until you get to Pipiriki. Enjoy the waterfalls, the many bird species and the most amazing ‘Bridge to Nowhere.’ • Five Day Journey (Recommended): For those of you who have the time "this journey has it all"! It is New Zealands only TOP 10 Great Walk that you can canoe. This journey starts at Taumarunui and finishes at Pipiriki. It covers 145 km, with exhilerating rapids, breath takiing scenery, gorgeous waterfalls, rock formations to paddle through the middle, farmland, native bush, and lots of DOC Campsites. The Whanganui National Park, has wild life -(native bats, kiwi, whio, kaka, and even glow worms and much more …). The five day journey incorporates all of the above days, so all you need to do now is make your decision! Together with our staff (including our six children, 5 boys and 1 girl) we love and enjoy the river and have been known to escape down the Mighty Whanganui on many occasions ourselves, making memories of our River Adventures! This means we know and understand the Awa very well. Our passion is to see you have the best time you possibly can during your experience and adventures with us either Canoeing and Jet Boating the Whanganui River or Bicycling the Timber Trail. We have a strong bond to the Land, the Mountains, the Whanganui River, the Fauna and the indigenous Maori people of the Region. We would like all of our guests to look after our pristine living environment, which requires our unlimited care and protection for the enhancement and well being of the Awa (River), for future generations to enjoy.
