FAQ's Do I need a license to drive the boat? No. However we do require that you have some boating experience. Who drives the boat? You Captain the boat yourself! We cannot drive the boat for you. That's the best part-you drive where you want, when you want! How many people does the boat hold? While the boat holds more, our permit allows for a maximum of six persons, including any children. How far ahead should I make reservations? Since we are the only U-Drive boat rental company on Maui, we recommend making reservations as early as possible. This is especially important during Whale season, December-May. Can we keep the boat overnight? No. On Maui there are a limited number of slips and moorings, so there is no place to park the boat at night. How early should we go out? We can meet you at the Kihei Boat Ramp as early as 6am and get you on the water shortly after our orientation. Because of the Trade Winds in Hawaii, we suggest you get out on the water as early as you can. The trades usually start up sometime between 11am and 1pm. Some days they can blow up to 30 mph. Other days they don't blow at all, but it's best to plan on them and get an early start to any ocean activities that you have planned. What do we do when it's time to come in? Just contact us on your cell phone 30 minutes before you plan to be back. We will meet you at the dock and take the boat out of the water for you. What if we want to stay out longer? Your reserved "Water time" starts 1 hour after your check in time. If you choose to stay out longer it is $139 per hour thereafter. You may stay out as long as you like, weather permitting. However you must return an hour before sunset. Do we trailer the boats down the launch ramp? No. We launch the boat and take it out of the water for you and clean it when you're done. All you do is step off the dock and onto the boat, drive where you like, and have all the fun! How do I know where to go? During our thirty minute orientation we will familiarize you with the local waters. We'll show you the most popular spots and off limits areas on the map and the GPS. You can go as far south as Big Beach, Makena and as far north as Kahana. Would I be better off going out on one of the many boat excursions on Maui? That depends. If no one in your party has boating experience, then yes, you would need to book with a tour company. If there are only a couple people in your party it would be cheaper to book a tour, though not nearly as much fun.
