What To Expect Onboard: Kamehameha is a 39.5-foot sailboat manufactured by Fast Yachts, following the project by renowed designer Germán Frers. The shipyard produced some 80 units of these very strong and efficient cruising/racing sailboats between 1985 and 1995. She is fully equipped for short or long trips, with two twin cabins, two headrooms. kitchen and a large saloon. The Guanabara Bay The Guanabara bay is the site to many of Rio´s local and international sailing events. It is also the entrance to Rio de Janeiro´s main harbour. It also the stage for gazing at Rio's main landmarks, the statue of Christ The Redeemer and Sugar Loaf. The Cagarras Archipelago The Cagarras Archipelago, just one hour from Kamehameha´s mooring at the Yacht Club of Rio de Janeiro, is formed by five main islands. This group of islands is home of many wild seabirds, like frigates and seagulls and sea creatures such as dolphins and fishes. Second half of the year, some of our visitors are lucky to see humpback whales passing by on their annual journey from the South Pole to the Abrolhos archipelago off the coast of the state of Bahia. Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1956, Captain Gurjão is a sportsman who has enjoyed sea related activities since very young. From body-surfing, to surfing, windsurfing and sailing. His career as a financial executive in the corporate world evolved parallel to his passion for these sports and permitted the acquisition of Kamehameha in January 2008. Sail in Rio was founded as consequence of this passion and of the increasing demand for sail chartering in Rio de Janeiro. Licensed Amateur Captain by the Brazilian Navy, Captain Gurjão accumulates significant sailing mileage from his trips north and south of the Brazilian coast.

Half-day sail lasts 5 hours maximum. Tours may be private or non-private. Private groups of 6 or less people will pay minimum $600 USD for the tour.
