Kayak Trip On Katherine River
We use a range of 'Scupper Pro' sit-on-top kayaks or 2 person canoes, (mainly for adult/child or couple pairing). The sit on tops are self draining, comfortable and very stable. The canoes are 4.5 m open style polypropylene suited for touring. Many of our guests have never paddled before. Our fully qualified and accredited guides ensure that this is not a problem. We offer the Katherine River 3 Day Trip, our most popular trip. Using top quality equipment and accredited, qualified guides, this trip covers 40 to 55 kilometres of wildlife rich river, downstream from Katherine and away from the often crowded Nitmiluk National Park (Katherine Gorge). Fed by springs and soaks throughout the long 'Dry Season', the river below the Gorge, winds through rocky banks, paperbark forests, small rapids and pandanus channels. Comfortable bush camping, great dining, fantastic service and wildlife encounters - it all adds up to being a unique experience. A trip you will never forget. Gecko Canoeing, one of the BEST 20 Tours in AUSTRALIA, began offering nature based canoeing and kayaking experiences in the Katherine region of the Northern Territory in 1994 and soon after added bushwalking and trekking experiences to our range of wilderness immersions. We now offer paddling experiences on the Katherine River and the Ord River in the famous East Kimberley, hiking on the Jatbula Trail and the Dreaming Place Trail in the Nitmiluk National Park, Kakadu Twin Falls Trail in the Kakadu National Park. We also arrange special interest tours and private charters. We provides immersive small group nature based touring in some of the most remote nature destinations in the Northern Territory. Our goal is to effectively interpret the natural, cultural and heritage aspects of the environment, whilst protecting our environment through raising awareness of sustainable tourism.
