About Pula

Pula is a small coastal town at the end of the Istrian peninsula in northern Croatia. It has many ancient ruins, as it was first constructed about 3000 years ago. Roman occupation took over the city for hundreds of years. It’s a diverse city full of Croats, Italians, Bosniaks, Slovenes, and Serbs. It’s a small town and the majority of it can be explored on foot. All the tourist destinations are in the historic center.

The best time of year to visit Pula is during the tourist season of June-September. During these months, the weather is warm and sunny and tourists can enjoy the beautiful beaches of Pula. In October through May, many restaurants and resorts shut down completely. These months draw in larger crowds and prices surge during this time. It can be very cheap to visit in the offseason, but some of the things you may want to do might be closed down.

To get to Pula, you can fly directly into its international airport. There is also an international bus and train station located near the old town. You can also fly to Trieste in Italy and take a bus to Pula, depending on your origin city and the available flights.

Boat Rentals in Pula

Chartering a yacht or renting a boat for a day of cruising the Istrian coastline is a popular choice while in Pula. Croatia is known for its idyllic seaside, with sparkling blue waters, gorgeous towns full of whitewashed houses and red roofs. It’s no wonder why renting a boat is one of the top activities for visitors to Pula. Your captain may even take you to spots where there are lots of dolphins swimming around! While on your boat, see if you can make a stop at the Brijuni islands, a cluster of 14 tiny islands right off the Istrian coast. Here there is a beautiful national park to explore.

Spending a day sailing is a magical experience. Feel the wind power you around the coastline, stopping for a swim and snorkel and eating lunch onboard. You can also choose from multi-day sailing charters that will take you to the surrounding islands on a wonderful adventure.

Stand up paddleboarding is popular in Pula. You can rent a board for a few hours and spend some time paddling around the coastline in the calm waters of the Adriatic Sea. A unique SUP experience you can have in Pula is a night paddle, where LED lights underneath the board illuminate the water below. The sunset tours are known for having frequent dolphin encounters, an unforgettable adventure.

Scuba charters and gear rental are available at different dive shops around Pula. If you want to spend a day out diving, a charter will provide you with all the necessary equipment and a seasoned divemaster to take you to the best spots.

Kayaking and canoeing are popular activities you can do while in Pula. Rent a sea kayak for the day and spend it paddling around the coastline and into the little coves around Pula. You can also have a tour guide if you want an experienced local to show you the best spots.

Boating Events in Pula

The most popular boating events that take place in Pula during the summer are the famous Boat Parties. During Outlook Festival in September, boat parties are a fun way to spend a day cruising around and listening to music. The festival is primarily bass and electronic music, however, it has expanded to include artists of many other genres.

Pula also hosts small sailing regattas throughout the year. Many are open to sailors of a wide range of abilities and experience.

Other Things To Do

When you aren’t cruising on your boat rental in Pula, there are many things to see and do in the charming old town. Visit the Amphitheatre of Pula to get a glimpse into this town’s ancient past. Dating from the 1st century, this Roman amphitheater is one of the largest in the world. For more history, check out the Museum Olei Histriae, where you can have an informative historical tour and taste local olive oil!

The archaeological museum, maritime museum and the Venetian fortress are other spots of interest to check out.

A visit to the old church and monastery of St. Francis is another thing to do while wandering around the charming old city. It’s a beautiful place to visit, and a bit of an uphill hike to reach. Make sure you also see the Arco dei Sergi when exploring the old town.

Check out some of the nice beaches in Pula for a relaxing day in the sand. Valkane Beach is a popular beach with lots of bars and restaurants nearby. For a more secluded experience, head to Kamenjak Cape, a protected park on the southern tip of the peninsula. Here you’ll have far fewer crowds, but the beaches are much rockier. Beach Histria is a fantastic beach for families. There are plenty of shaded spots so you can spend the entire day here without risking too much sun exposure.

Marinas in Pula

ACI Marina Pula, Marina Veruda, and Bunarina are the primary marinas in Pula. They offer boating services as well as tourist information. The facilities are modern and the staff is knowledgeable. They can help you plan your boating day off Pula. Marina Veruda is known for being a gorgeous spot to admire yachts and watch the sunset, and there are nearby restaurants to stop and eat at.
