Aventure is a classic ketch of 29 metres, launched in 2011 by Patrick Balta, the French shipwright whose Thai yard has built some of the finest traditional yachts sailing in Asia. Long overhangs, a raked transom, varnished teak and a working spread of canvas on two masts. Below she is quiet and cool: a full width saloon under skylights, hardwood panelling, three double cabins and a single, and a galley set up to feed seven guests properly for a fortnight away from a market. Freshly renovated and sailing year round from Phuket, she is at her best from November to April, when the northeast monsoon opens the passage into Myanmar. She is also a working platform for photography. Fashion houses and luxury brands charter her for campaign and editorial shoots, for the rig, the teak and the light as much as for the anchorages.
