Experience a relaxing houseboat holiday on the Tweed River, NSW. Kalinda is a lovely large vessel with all her cabins downstairs and a great entertaining area upstairs. Not only does she have a solid roof over two-thirds of the upper deck (front area) she also has protective clears (clear vinyl) surrounds. This means that if the weather is inclement or cool, you can simply close the clears and an enclosed room is created. With a large BBQ, stainless steel bench tops, bar fridge, sink with hot and cold running water together with a filtered water tap, entertaining is a breeze. Downstairs has three double bedrooms, one of which steps out onto the back deck, and a bunk room with two single bunks. Another great feature aboard Kalinda is the second full bathroom upstairs. Two bathrooms, both with a full shower, separate toilet and sink there is no need to wait for the bathroom. Extensive solar system and a generator charging system has been fitted so electrical appliances such as a microwave oven and electric toaster in the kitchen, and use of hair dryer in the bathroom, are standard features on this houseboat. Hire Terms Hire Period Hire commences at 2.30 pm on the first day and concludes at 9:00 am on the last day of letting. These are daylight savings times. Earlier returns can be made by arrangement. It is advisable to telephone the day before departure to confirm departure times. The Letting • Total passengers must not exceed the number of surveyed berths. • No pets, firearms or kegs permitted on board by law. • The houseboats are not permitted to travel after dark, or dock at public jetties and wharves. Use the tender or dinghy for transfers. • The hirer will stay within the waters as per survey certificate and obey all navigational rules. • If the hirer is found to be acting in a manner which could cause damage to the houseboat or other vessel, acting contrary to hire agreement or Waterways regulations, passengers can be evicted from the houseboat with no refund of hire. • If any malfunction in relation to the boat, motor or equipment, or damage or loss of equipment occurs, the hirer will notify the management as soon as possible. • The hirer will return the boat in as good a condition as when taken or pay for any loss or damage. • The boat is to be returned in a clean and tidy state, or an additional fee of $100 per hour for cleaning will be charged. • Late returns will be charged at $100.00 per hour, or part thereof. • Houseboat boarding is from the Tweed Marina, River Terrace, Tweed Heads. If your specific questions are not answered below, please contact us and we will put your mind at ease. Do I need a boat license? No boating or fishing license's are required. We supply all information and training required. Do I need any experience? You don't need any boating experience, just a dash of common sense. We give you a complete briefing on operation and navigating your houseboat before you even leave the marina. Then one of our captains pilots you out from the marina and gives you practical driving instruction. How many people can we take? From singles, couples to groups of up to 12 people, houseboating is suitable for all ages and is great value. Boat capacity varies from boat to boat and you can choose from budget to luxury, from 2 to 12 berth. Are houseboats suitable for children? Yes! Houseboat holidays are a great family getaway. Some houseboats are more suitable for young children than others, so please check with us on the suitability of the houseboat of your choice, or we can help you choose the best boat for your holiday. Like anywhere else with water, small children on a boat do require adult supervision at all times. If you don't have a life jackets for your children, we do have some children's life jackets that you can borrow. Can I bring my pet on the houseboat? Sorry, due to health restrictions, we are unable to permit pets aboard the houseboats. Pets and animals generally don't enjoy being in a confined areas so possibly another alternatively would be better for them. There are several good pet motels in the area if you would like contact details. Will my mobile phone work? There is mobile phone coverage throughout the Tweed Valley. Depending upon your carrier and distances from their towers, you may find coverage a little patchy in some areas. If you particularly need to be in phone contact, please check your reception before anchoring and it may simply be a case of moving a few 100 metres. Is linen provided? All of the houseboats are provided with pillows and doonas. Aboard Runaway Bear, Pluto and Wanderer you need to bring (or hire from us) sheets and towels. Aboard all other houseboats, you simply need to bring (or hire) towels. A floor mat, hand towel and a couple of face washers are provided for each bathroom, together with a couple of guest soaps. How far can we travel? All the houseboats in our fleet can travel the Tweed River from Tweed Heads all the way to Condong. Image Anne, Misty Blue, Wanderer, Pluto and Runaway Bear can cruise further upriver to Murwillumbah - nearly to the weir. At Tumbulgum, the houseboats (except Pacific Blue) can also travel up the Rous River to Cemetery Bay. In Tweed Heads, the houseboats can cruise up the Terranora Creek to Big Island or Womgin Island. Over a 3 or 4 night houseboat booking we find most customers travel around 7 hours for their holiday - over a full week, generally around 10 hours. Can we drink alcohol on a houseboat? Normal drink driving rules apply to people driving a houseboat. The driver may not exceed .05 same as when driving a car. Apart from that, stay safe, respect any possible neighbors and have fun. Can we drive the houseboat at night? No! Houseboats must not be driven after sunset. Hire Terms and Procedures Hire Fee Payment The FULL HIRE FEE is required prior to departure. SECURITY BOND – $2000 security bond is required on the day of departure ($1000 for Runaway Bear, Pluto, Misty Blue and Wanderer). Payment of security bond on the day may be made by cash, credit card (Mastercard or Visa are accepted) and Eftpos. Alternatively, a Pre-Authorisation can be taken. Please note that a Pre-Authorisation will freeze the funds on your credit card for up to 14 days. As our bank only guarantees to hold the funds for 5 business days, pre-auth facilities for hires longer than a week will not be available. Direct deposit options are also available, however, this needs to clear our account prior to the day. Cancellations Forty-Five (45) Days Notice – Refund in Full. Thereafter the deposit is forfeited unless the boat is rebooked for full price. Thirty (30) days or less – deposit and balance of hire forfeited, unless the boat is rebooked for full price. For special hires, Easter, Christmas and New Year, 90 days notice required for refund, unless the boat is rebooked for full price. A $100 cancellation/administration fee may apply. Weather policy We do not offer refunds or credits in the case of non-fine weather conditions that are considered to be non-dangerous, i.e. if it is simply overcast, windy or rainy. In the rare event that severe and or dangerous weather conditions are declared by us during your charter, your boats movements may be restricted or your boat may be recalled back to base for safety reasons. In this case, all houseboats will be docked on the marina until further notice. No refunds or credits can be given in this situation. In the unlikely event that a severe and or dangerous weather condition is declared by us, we will not refund but offer a credit to you and allow the credit to be applied to another non-peak time as agreed to by you and us. We will allow up to 24 months for the credit to be used, giving you ample time to reschedule. Our management will, at their discretion and after consulting with all relevant authorities, decide what is non-fair, severe and or dangerous weather. We always have the safety and well being of our customers and staff as a priority and as members of our family, the houseboats in our fleet are also our concern. As you know we are unable to control the weather any more than the next person, however we will work with you as best we can to manage weather situations. We do recommend that you consider the option of Travel Insurance for your houseboat adventure, particularly if you are unable to postpone. It is a small cost for peace of mind. Travel Insurance should also cover you for illness, lost luggage and emergency travel arrangements. Travel Insurance We recommend that you consider taking out travel insurance for those unforeseen things that may require you to cancel your hire. Whilst we are compassionate towards illness, injury and family loss, we cannot cover the cost of short notice cancellations. This can be particularly embarrassing and a financial strain for you if your friends decide to pull out on you at the last minute. Travel insurance is low cost and will give you peace of mind that if something untoward does happen that you will not be financially disadvantaged. Travel insurance will also cover you for things other than just cancellations; you can also be covered for lost/damaged/stolen luggage, rental vehicle excess, emergency travel arrangements, medical evacuation, etc. There are several companies that offer domestic travel insurance (a simple Google search will assist) or if you walk into a Flight Centre branch you can take out a policy with them on the spot.
