Whale Watching $180 a person for a 3 hour tour min of 4 people $1800 for a privet tour up to six people for 5 1/2 hours Whales and eagles and sea lions, oh my! Better have your cameras ready during this up close and personal experience of Alaska’s most recognized wildlife. Our focus is to introduce you to the humpback whales who return to these waters to feed and play for the summer months. These gentle giants can often be seen breaching, tail lobbing, or swimming on their backs exposing their flippers. Another possible encounter is with the well-known black and white beauty, the Orca (also known as the killer whale). Often traveling with their families in pods these majestic mammals are very social and the top predator of the ocean. While on the water it’s very likely we will have great photo opportunities of bald eagles and sea lions. A more rare site, but not impossible, is spotting brown bears roaming the beaches of surrounding islands. So keep your eyes open and have your camera battery charged as we venture into Alaska’s wild. The Boat The boat is a custom aluminum catamaran made by Munson Co Inc and fully-equipped with all available safety gear. The boat has a heated cabin with comfortable seating for all and restroom available for use. Captain Billy is the real deal. He grew up in Hoonah, making him very familiar with the local geography and wildlife. We had a last minute (<24 hrs) cruise itinerary change and when I emailed him from the ship, he was already aware of the new arrival date and had a plan in place to get us on the water. He took us straight to the whales with a quick pit stop to see a bear walking on the beach. We saw pods of orcas, a large humpback, and then we hit the jackpot with a mother humpback and her BREACHING calf. We stayed and enjoyed his acrobatics until he wore himself out. It was AMAZING! We will never forget this trip. The next time we make it to Alaska, we’re calling Captain Billy!
Very attentive and sure thing. Recommended
