About This Boat

Kajsamoor :

Sailing vessel “Kajsamoor” (1939) is a two-masted galeass-rigged square-topsail wooden schooner built in 1939 in Aasheim og Valvatne Skibsbyggeri yard in Sagvåg Sunnhordland, Norway, as a typical North Sea cargo ship.

The name comes from old Norse mythology and means The Mother of Wind Troll. Since the Trolls average about 300-years of lifespan our windtroll is a rather young lady.

Captain of Kajsamoor, Mr.Herkki Haldre has been sailing on deep seas, been involved in off-shore racing and has completed Round-the-Cape Horn passage under sail, just as in old glorious windjammer days, being among few living sailors in modern world decorated with the honor of wearing a golden ear-ring.

SOUND & MEDIA:

Sit back and enjoy our theme song here, created by our long-time friends Marko Matvei, Priit Öövel and Anto Siimson. Hope You enjoy the theme as much as we do!

Today the ship is the rare living example of typical sailing trader (LOA 108ft – 33m, beam 6m, displacement 148 tons) in Estonia, offering cozy tar-scented leisure cruises, day-trips and charters certified up to 60 passengers. Our routes include picturesque and unspoiled Estonian Islands, Åland Archipelago (Finland), Gotland (Sweden) and a long and lusty array of well-known maritime festivals, like Kieler Woche, Rostocker Hansesail, Ålands Sjödagar, Tallinn Maritime Days and other events.

Facilities:

Fully equipped Galley, two restrooms with shower, hot/cold fresh water, central heating, 220V/24V.

The vessel is equipped with all modern safety equipment according to the Maritime Authority requirements and is certified for the Passenger service in the near-coastal area, Baltic Sea.

The ships hold is well stowed with merry casks, lapping joyfully as the steward knocks off the plugs. Here you will find the romantic sunsets, tar-scented squeaking rigging, old marine traditions, picturesque moments, love and passion. And if it’s not enough, the Limpy Jonathans’ secret Seawolf recepy drinks will make your day!

We manage the ship restoration using the traditional ways, workmanship and materials.

Schooner "Kajsamoor" is supported by European Regional Development Fund.

Nevertheless, the everyday upkeep of the vessel is funded with Your help and Tour ticketing.

Galley or What is Served? This page is updated on regular basis! – We are currently and constantly checking the cook-books for the most delicious recipes…

This is what you get on board, following the old good maritime traditions:

On day cruises and port tours we are serving hearty boatswains day’s catch. Sometimes this is salmon, then it’s clam, another time you get a bass, and then you may end up with the old boot or something…

When it comes to private sailing venuethere can be something special for you – a captain’s Smörgåsbord accompanied with choice of sailors grill buffet*. Comes with wine and beer to flush it all down.

The seafood specialities* – our favorites are the scallops – hand picked by the divers, sea-devil and sole. (Depending on season)

Another delicious treat is the shrimps – BBQ coconut shrimps. We should even say – pretty much the same way as Bubba Gump himself loved ‘em! (Ask for details)

In the old days seamen were entitled for salted fish or ever-lasting dried and lye-treated cod (lutefisk) and salted meat as general stock. Also the living provisions were taken on board – fresh meat. Until the hen and pigs lasted in the cages.

On longer voyages the scurvy was common disease due to lack of vitamines and fresh food.
