Important Booking Policies Qualified Operator or Paid Captain The boat may be operated by one designated renter-captain only, provided that person demonstrates sufficient boating experience and proficiency during the pre-departure orientation and checkout. The approved operator assumes responsibility for the boat, passengers, equipment, navigation, and compliance with all applicable boating laws. Approval to operate the boat is at the owner’s sole discretion. If the proposed operator is not considered sufficiently proficient, a qualified captain may be provided for an additional $300 per day, subject to availability. No other passenger may operate the boat unless approved in advance. Weather and Cancellation Policy Safety comes first. The boat may not leave the dock when conditions are considered unsafe due to high winds, heavy seas, poor visibility, small-craft advisories, mechanical concerns, or other hazardous conditions. If the owner cancels the booking because of unsafe weather or a mechanical issue, the renter may reschedule or receive a refund for the affected rental period. Light rain, clouds, cool temperatures, or ordinary San Juan Islands weather do not automatically qualify for cancellation. Renters should arrive on time and remain reachable before departure in case conditions require a schedule adjustment. Late Arrivals and No-Shows The rental period begins at the scheduled start time, even if the renter arrives late. Late arrival does not automatically extend the return time. Guests who fail to arrive or communicate within the established check-in window may be considered a no-show and may forfeit the booking payment, subject to the booking platform’s cancellation rules. Late returns may result in additional charges, particularly when they delay another booking, require staff to remain after hours, or create an unsafe nighttime return. Fuel Policy The boat will be provided with a full tank of fuel and must be returned full using ethanol-free marine gasoline. A receipt may be required to verify the fuel type and amount purchased. If the boat is returned without a full tank, the renter will be charged for the fuel used, plus any reasonable refueling or service fee. Cleaning and Return Condition The boat must be returned in substantially the same clean and orderly condition in which it was received. Before returning the boat, renters must: Remove all trash, food, bait and personal belongings. Clean up fish remains, blood, scales and bait residue. Rinse fishing and crabbing equipment as directed. Return all equipment to its designated storage location. Complete the provided return checklist and equipment inventory. Excessive cleaning, odor removal, fish or bait cleanup, upholstery cleaning, sanitation, or removal of abandoned property may result in an additional cleaning charge. Fishing and Crabbing Equipment The boat may include: - Fishing rods and reels - Two downriggers - Crab pots - Landing net - Other listed safety and fishing equipment Customers may bring their own fishing equipment. Bait is not provided. Renters must provide their own fishing bait, crab bait, tackle, licenses and catch-record documentation. All fishing and crabbing activity must comply with current Washington regulations, including seasons, catch limits, size restrictions, gear requirements and licensing rules. All provided equipment must be inventoried before departure and again upon return. Lost, damaged or improperly returned equipment will be charged to the renter. Passenger and Sleeping Capacity The boat has sleeping accommodations for up to four people. The maximum number of passengers and total onboard weight must never exceed the boat’s posted capacity, insurance restrictions, applicable law, or safe operating limits. The stated maximum is up to 12 occupants or 1,800 pounds total onboard weight, including passengers, luggage, coolers, supplies and equipment, but the lowest applicable limit will control. The operator must distribute passengers and equipment safely and must reduce the passenger load when weather, sea conditions, gear or overnight supplies make the boat more heavily loaded. Operating Restrictions For safety and equipment protection: - The engine may not be operated above 3,600 RPM. - The boat may not be raced, towed behind another vessel except in an emergency, intentionally beached, grounded or operated recklessly. - The boat must remain within the approved cruising area. - Operation after dark requires prior approval. - The approved operator may not allow another person to take control of the boat. - The boat may not be operated while the captain is impaired by alcohol, cannabis, medication or any other substance. - Passengers must remain seated or safely positioned while the boat is underway. - No person may sit on the bow, swim platform or gunwale while underway. - Children must wear properly fitted life jackets as required by law. - The operator must follow all navigation, speed, wake-zone and wildlife-distance rules. Violation of the RPM restriction or other operating rules may result in termination of the rental and liability for resulting damage. Safety Orientation Before departure, the designated operator must participate in an orientation covering: - Starting and shutting down the boat - Helm controls and instruments - Fuel system - Bilge pumps and alarms - Navigation equipment - Anchoring procedures - Life jackets and emergency equipment - Downrigger and fishing-equipment operation - Approved cruising boundaries - Emergency contacts and return procedures The boat may not depart until the checkout is completed and all required documents are signed. Damage and Equipment Responsibility The renter and designated operator are responsible for damage occurring during the rental period, including damage caused by: - Grounding or striking submerged objects - Propeller or outdrive impact - Docking accidents - Improper anchoring - Rope entanglement - Misuse of downriggers or fishing gear - Fueling with the wrong type of fuel - Exceeding the engine RPM limit - Unauthorized operation - Negligent or reckless conduct Any accident, grounding, equipment failure, injury or property damage must be reported immediately. Renters may not arrange repairs or continue operating after a serious warning light, alarm, impact or mechanical problem without authorization. Mechanical Issues If a mechanical issue occurs, the operator must safely stop the boat when practical and contact the owner immediately. Continued operation after an alarm, overheating condition, oil-pressure warning, unusual vibration, grounding, propeller strike or other serious problem may make the renter responsible for additional damage. Refunds or credits for mechanical interruptions will be determined based on the circumstances, the amount of rental time lost and whether the problem resulted from renter operation.
