1–2 guests · Private experience · 2+ hours Step aboard a classic 35-foot sailboat, built in 1975, for a private trip through Marina del Rey. The boat was designed to accommodate much larger groups and can sleep up to six people, so one or two guests will have plenty of room to relax. Choose from three separate experiences: learn to sail, enjoy a relaxed harbor cruise, or watch the marina transition from daylight into night during an extended sunset sail. Each trip is private and adapted to your interests, the weather, and your comfort level. Option 1: Learn to Sail Take the helm and participate in sailing the boat while learning basic steering, sail handling, points of sail, and how the boat responds to the wind. This experience is more active and sporty, particularly when there is ideal wind. No previous sailing experience is required, and instruction will be adjusted to your experience and comfort level. You can participate throughout the trip or take breaks whenever you would rather relax and enjoy the view. Option 2: Relaxed Harbor Cruise Settle in while I handle the boat and take you on a relaxed cruise through Marina del Rey. Enjoy the views, take photos, listen to music, talk, or bring a picnic while we pass sailboats, yachts, waterfront buildings, harbor wildlife, and the marina’s quieter channels. This experience is well suited to guests who want a peaceful and comfortable evening on the water without taking part in sailing. Option 3: Sunset Sail and Cruise My recommended experience Depart approximately two hours before sunset and return about one hour afterward. Over three hours, you will watch the marina and ocean transition through golden hour, sunset, dusk, and night. We will begin while the harbor is still bright, sail or cruise as the evening light becomes warmer, and watch the sun disappear beyond the coast. On the return trip, the sky gradually darkens and the lights of the marina begin reflecting across the water. The nighttime harbor has a calm and distinctive atmosphere that most visitors never experience from shore. You may relax for the entire trip or take part in some sailing along the way, but sailing instruction is not required. What to Expect We will meet at the marina for a short safety briefing and introduction to the boat. From there, we will leave the dock and begin the experience you selected. Ocean sailing may be active when conditions are windy, while cruising under motor inside the harbor provides a slower and more relaxed ride. The route and activities may be adjusted based on weather and water conditions. About the Boat The 35-foot sailing yacht is equipped for a comfortable day or evening on the water. We had an absolutely amazing experience with Captain Karl! From the very beginning, he made us feel comfortable and welcomed. He was not only a professional captain but also the soul of the trip. funny, friendly, and full of great energy. He chose the most beautiful spot for our special moment and helped make everything feel magical. He also took incredible photos of us that captured the emotions and the beauty of the moment perfectly. Those pictures will become memories we’ll treasure forever. Captain Karl went above and beyond to make our experience unforgettable. He was attentive, kind, and truly cared about making our day special. You can tell he loves what he does and enjoys sharing these moments with people. We are so grateful for this experience and highly recommend him to anyone looking for a beautiful sailing adventure. Thank you for being such an important part of our special day! Karl, you are the best!

One of my earliest and most formative memories is seeing a Los Angeles sunset and being completely taken aback by it. That feeling has stayed with me, and some of my favorite ways to experience the city are from the water—whether I’m taking a sunset cruise or kayaking through the marina as the light begins to change. I’m a licensed OUPV captain, boat owner, and UCLA-certified coastal kayaker with experience navigating Marina del Rey and the Southern California coast. I enjoy sharing the water with others, especially people who are new to boating or kayaking, and creating a relaxed, safe experience where they can slow down and see Los Angeles from a different perspective.
