Marina del Rey Sunset Sail 1–4 guests · 3 hours · Private experience Step aboard a classic 35-foot sailboat built in 1975 for a private trip through Marina del Rey. You can take the helm and learn the basics of sailing, or simply relax, enjoy a picnic, and watch the harbor change around you. Sailing in the ocean can be active and sporty when it's windy, while motoring through the harbor at sunset offers a slower, more relaxed experience. I adapt each trip to the interests and comfort level of the group. My recommended experience I recommend departing about two hours before sunset and returning one hour afterward. Over three hours, you’ll see the ocean and marina move through golden hour, sunset, dusk, and finally night. We’ll begin while the harbor is still bright, sail as the evening light turns warm, and watch the sun disappear beyond the coast. On the return trip, the sky darkens and the lights of the marina reflect across the water. The nighttime marina has an atmosphere that most visitors never get to experience from shore. Learn to sail Take part in the experience by learning basic steering, sail handling, points of sail, and how the boat responds to the wind. No prior experience is required. Relax and cruise Settle in, enjoy the view, take photos, talk, or bring a picnic while I handle the boat. This option is ideal for couples, close friends, celebrations, and guests who simply want a peaceful evening on the water. Most trips include a combination of both. Guests can participate as much or as little as they like. We’ll meet at the marina for a short safety briefing and introduction to the boat. From there, we’ll leave the dock and tour Marina del Rey, passing sailboats, yachts, waterfront buildings, and the harbor’s quieter channels.

One of my earliest and most formative memories is seeing a Los Angeles sunset and being completely taken aback by it. That feeling has stayed with me, and some of my favorite ways to experience the city are from the water—whether I’m taking a sunset cruise or kayaking through the marina as the light begins to change. I’m a licensed OUPV captain, boat owner, and UCLA-certified coastal kayaker with experience navigating Marina del Rey and the Southern California coast. I enjoy sharing the water with others, especially people who are new to boating or kayaking, and creating a relaxed, safe experience where they can slow down and see Los Angeles from a different perspective.
