Corsair Sailing Charters Grenada

The SS Corsair The "Corsair" is an award winning classic Biloxi schooner built in 1976 which invokes the lines of a classic shrimper or gulf coast freighter of centuries past. With graceful sheer and sweet lines, the ship was designed and hand-built by Captain Michael Broussard, a third generation boat builder, well known in the Biloxi area, to US Coast Guard standards. Captain Broussard was trained by Francis Herreshoff of Bristol and has taught himself at the International School of Yacht Restoration (IRYS). Corsair’s hull is crafted from Southern White Cedar and the deck from beautiful mahogany. The original Schooner rigging with two masts has been converted into a magnum gaff rigged cutter sloop with a topsail. With a length on deck of 57 feet and 74 feet overall, Corsair is a very spacious and comfortable long range sailboat. Corsair has been up and down the East coast of the US and the Gulf of Mexico, serving as a commercial shrimp vessel, sail training vessel, participating in advertising campaigns and has even played a role in the movie "Interview with a Vampire." In 2017 Corsair was carefully refurbished and converted from a workboat to an extremely stylish and premium quality charter vessel. The main salon is very roomy and is located adjacent to the galley which is our chef's pride. 3 double berths and 2 single berths with privacy dividers and curtains are to be found waiting for you. The bathroom is stunning and unique, Corsair may be the only modern schooner equipped with a claw foot tub. We’re a young and open-minded couple who live with our beautiful rescue dogs, Mango, Sugar and Yoda aboard our pair of very well equipped and comfortable boats Malu and Corsair. We’re both passionate about good hosting and are Thai Yoga Massage practitioners able to offer a variety of luxuriant and pampering treatments on board – available on request. We adore the way of life at sea where we’re free to weigh anchor and set sail wherever we please, often enjoying the serene solitude of a beautiful deserted bay. Marc has been sailing since he was a boy. The conclusion of a five year industrial mechanic apprenticeship saw him work for Skipper Service, a German cabin charter company where he served as an offshore skipper and marine engineer; skippering his first Atlantic crossing at only 20 years old. He has also taken part in the construction of the underwater steel and foundations for the World’s greatest floating opera stage in Bregenz, Austria from 2006 to 2017 in his capacity as a self-employed engineer and commercial diver. He discovered and fell in love with Malu in 2008, Corsair was bought recently, by this point his experience and knowledge was such that he felt confident setting out on his own, skippering his own boat and hosting a wide variety of guests. A long and extremely thorough renovation and refurbishment followed ensuring that the vessels were not only seaworthy and reliable, but fit his rigorous standards. With 22 years of diving experience and thousands of dives to his credit, Marc is the perfect dive master to show you the true beauties of the deep safely. Marc’s first love at 17 was Ivonne. Fast forward 20 years and thanks to FaceBook she came back into his life. After a 3 week holiday on Malu 2013, she decided to sell her house and give up her job as an accountant in Germany and make a new life. She stepped onto a plane destined back to Malu 8 weeks later with just one suitcase and since then has never looked back, lighting it up every single day with her sunny smile, positive attitude, her art and her magnificent cooking skills; often being told she has prepared “the best food we’ve had in the Caribbean” by very happy guests. Nothing gives her more pleasure or pride than to be the perfect host. The Corsair was purchased in 2017. Together, Marc, Ivonne, Mango and Sugar sailed The Corsair from Alabama through the Gulf of Mexico, the Bahamas and the Caribbean Islands to his new home in Grenada. On an unexpectedly difficult voyage they rode out numerous storms, including Hurricanes Irma and Maria, sailed through destroyed islands and yet still managed to keep up the maintenance and repair of the ship, delivering The Corsair safely home for new adventures in the Caribbean islands.
