Klaus is a qualified mariner, former naval officer, circumnavigator, Cape Horner, oceanographer, marine geologist and has sailed more than 220.000 nautical miles across the Seven Seas, not counting the long time he has spent on minesweepers, destroyers and the Square Riggers, where he had obtained his sea legs as long ago as in 1967. He is German, but has lived since 1981 nearly continuously abroad, mainly in New Zealand and Chile.
