We started operating back in 1997 by the hand of a passionate lover of adventure sports, Alberto (Grillo) Barthaburu. As a pioneer of these activities in the Northern area of our country, he made his first descents downstream Juramento River in 1984. Salta Rafting was born with the aim of making rafting a popular sport, which until that time was unknown within the field of tourism, as well as offering visitors the highest international quality service standards. During the first year, we settled in a tent on the bank of the Juramento River. We relied only on a raft which we called "chancha" (female sow) and a Ford F 100 truck. Only very few rafting expeditions were made per week and the guides spent their day's kayaking and their lonely nights by the river waiting for customers to arrive... Little by little, thanks to the work and help of several assistants and friends, rafting in Salta became well-known, the outings more frequent, and the rafting expeditions turned into a classic for those visiting Salta and Cabra Corral Dam. Once settled in our current headquarters, at km 34 on Road 47, we succeeded in growing slowly but steadily, improving the infrastructure, and purchasing more rafts and support vehicles. Guides and kayakers both from Salta and from other provinces were trained and later made their first guiding jobs along the Juramento River together with Grillo and Salta Rafting, and today have become well-known as excellent guides not only in Argentina but also abroad. All of them are certified by the International Rafting Association (IRF). We are credited members of ADOPTA (Alternative Tourism Operators Association), the only recognized by the Tourism Board to practise alternative tourism. Since April 2003, we have become a Travel and Tourism Agency (EVT File N 11610) as we comply with all the current regulations and specific insurance policies required for extreme sports. We have an office in downtown Salta. In the year 2011, we approved the project of implementation of IRAM quality regulations for the rafting activity.
