Tangier Island for the Day Just 55 nautical miles north of Lynnhaven Inlet, you can experience an island in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay that’s like no other! Captain John Smith first visited Tangier Island in 1608, and today, residents still have a distinct “Elizabethan” accent. Enjoy a delicious meal, take in the views, visit the history museum and stroll around this unique place. Ospreys and Oysters Tour Sights include First Landing State Park, osprey nests, and a view of the Brock Environmental Center. Look up and there’s a good chance you’ll see an osprey, many times with a fish in its talons, taking it home for lunch. Speaking of lunch, our waters are famous for oysters, and there are many oyster beds. Come see them up close and personal from the Susan C. In the middle of your tour, you’ll step off the Susan C and enjoy Sunset Beach, near the new resort in Kiptopeke on the western side of the Eastern Shore.
