Additional Terms & Information

WELCOME ONBOARD S/v MAYERO Over the years we sailed with guests & crew onboard we have had various experiences ranging from absolutely fantastic to disappointments. A lot of your experience while sailing with us are due to the weather and sea conditions, we can’t influence on it – follow and take precautions only – however there are other factors that will contribute to your stay with us, please read below information and feel free to contact us pre-sailing if anything is unclear, contact details are below.   Your experience level matters little as long as you come with a positive attitude, willingness to contribute and curiosity!  First of all you are a cruising guest but we like to see you as a crew member on S/v Mayero, so let us know what part of the job you like to do, helmsman, sail master, chef in the galley, etc. THE BOAT COMES FIRST & THE CAPTAIN HAS THE AUTHORITY Every decision regarding sailing route, motoring or sailing, sail-layout, anchorage, etc. will always be based on safety of the ship and safety and comfort of everybody on board. To sail S/v Mayero safely from A to B, we need to know that everybody onboard are comfortable with how we plan and accomplish a cruise, therefor it’s very important to know your expectations and experiences of life onboard a sailing boat. For this we like to have a brief meeting to learn to know you before heading out. If possible we will arrange a meeting the day before departure.    Different options of routing will be presented and discussed but the captain has the authority to decide based on safety and or guest’s experience.  WE'RE ALWAYS LEARNING We do not pretend to know everything, and we do not nag each other when someone did something wrong. Not knowing something is ok, and a good opportunity to learn something new! PREPARATION IS EVERYTHING Each cruise is unique and we try to get ourselves and Mayero prepared accordingly, therefor it’s important to us to understand your expectations and wishes, please tell us in advance if possible. ALL INCLUDED Onboard you get breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as snacks, tea or coffee, soft drinks, beer and an afternoon drink. Be aware there is a limited selection and quantity. Do not bring your own alcoholic beverage we prefer that you tell us in advance if any special wishes and we will try to bring with us. Meals or drinks at local restaurants or café’s on shore are not included.    HEALTH & INCURANCE Big issues usually start small. Let us know if any issue of medical order.  We carry an extensive medical kit and pharmacy onboard, however you have to take responsibility for your own regular medication if any, bring with you to cover for the whole trip plus 3-5 days extra. Make sure you have a travel insurance covering sport activities, including cruising on a sailing boat.  BAGS & SUITCASES You will find very quickly that hard-sided suitcases are simply impossible to store anywhere onboard. For your own comfort, pack your stuff in a cabin size soft duffle bag or backpack!  CLOTHES We are sailing in the tropics so you don’t need any heavy clothes, shorts and T-shirt are the basic dress however you should bring sun protecting gears i.e. hat, long sleeved shirt etc. It can become a chilly place, so pack your bikini, but don’t forget to bring a fleece or any type of warm sweater as well. FOOTWEAR We all want to be barefoot sailors in the tropics however your toes will meet with all the hardware on deck so we strongly advise that you bring a pair of non-slip shoes, a pair of Crocs will do a great job while being easy to slip-on/slip-off. SUN PROTECTION We typically sail under the sun. Don’t forget to bring a hat, a good pair of sunglasses and sunscreen! BEDDING & TOWELS We have pillows, duvets, bed sheets, sleeping bag and towels for guests and will do everything we can to keep you warm at night! SLEEPING ARRANGMENTS Guests stays in the forepeak/V-berth and/or the salon settees converted to a double berth. There are one single berth as well in the salon that can be used. Be aware that the forepeak have a door to make it private witch the salon don’t have. The crew sleeps in the captain’s cabin aft of the salon and galley. TIDINESS S/v Mayero is a small boat, and she gets messy really fast if we aren’t careful (especially when we are 3 or 4 aboard). This is particularly important when we are sailing, as objects lying around can all of a sudden become flying objects that in the best case break, or in the worst case hurt someone. We ask you to help up keep the boat as tidy as possible during your stay with us! THE MYSTERIOUS BOAT TOILET There are only one head (Toilet) on S/v Mayero, and it is manual. If you are unfamiliar with manual toilet pumps, we’ll demonstrate how to use it. A smelly toilet is a fast way to seasickness, so we ask you to flush properly, keep it clean and leave it the way you would like to find it next time. NO TOILET PAPER SHALL BE THROWN IN THE TOILET. There is a container where used toilet paper should be disposed. WATER USAGE Although we do have 500 l of water + drinking water we are very cautious with how much water we use. We are careful with the water when we do the dishes or brush our teeth, and we keep the showers very short. It doesn’t mean that we don’t take showers but we are careful to use as little water as possible when we do so.    ELECTRICITY USAGE S/v Mayero is equipped with solar panels and batteries which allow you to charge phones and cameras during daylight (sunshine) or whenever the engine are running, the captain will tell you how and when its ok charge. Lights need to be switched off when not needed, the fridge’s doors need to be properly shut.  TRASH We try to produce as little trash as we possibly can. All compostable waste is thrown overboard, while plastic and can’s has to be carried with us for later recycling. We don’t take cardboard onboard due to the risk of following insects.   BEFORE WE DEPART BOAT TOUR & SAFETY BRIEF When you arrive on S/v Mayero, we will give you a tour of the boat and explain how things work, from how to flush the toilet to where things are in the kitchen. We will also give you a brief on safety procedures, show you where the safety equipment is located and how to operate it. NAVIGATION BRIEF & CHECKS Before heading out, we go through a navigation brief: destination, weather, obstacles, and contingency plan: we discuss all aspects of our coming passage so everybody onboard knows the same thing. We do engine checks, bilge checks and have the cabin thoroughly cleaned up. If you are curious about anything, don’t hesitate to ask! We love to share our bits of knowledge and exchange best practices.   WHO WE ARE We are a Thai-Swedish couple living outside Krabi in the southwest of Thailand close to the Andaman Sea and Phangnga Bay one of the most beautiful sailing grounds you can find. Together we have a long experience of sailing in tropical waters as well in the waters around Scandinavia. We spend a lot of days onboard and like to share some days with guests to show how peaceful and pristine it is if you go a bit out of the “tourist-stream”   SEA YOU SOON! Anders & Sa
