    Boating Guide - Betina

    About Betina

Betina is a small village on the Croatian island of Murter. It’s connected to the mainland by a drawbridge. Betina and the surrounding villages on Murter contain many Roman ruins. These villas and structures illustrate the ancient history of the island. It’s a tiny village with less than 1,000 permanent residents. It’s the perfect destination if you’re looking for a quiet vacation. It's a place that seems untouched by the outside world. You can explore the entirety of the island of Murter during your stay and avoid the big crowds that flock to the other islands and cities in Croatia.

The best time of year to visit Betina for great weather is between April and mid-June, or during the months of September & October. Late June-August is the busiest time to visit Betina or any part of Dalmatia. In the summer, tourists flock to the Croatian islands and prices soar, so booking in advance for these months is essential. This is also the best time to visit if you’re looking to experience a more vibrant nightlife. During the winter months, the temperature is much lower and the island is quiet.

Getting to Betina is relatively easy since the island of Murter is connected to the mainland by a bridge. The closest airport is in Split, and from Split to Betina it’s just over an hour drive. All the other towns on Murter are accessible by car. Zadar’s airport is also close.

    Boat Rentals in Betina

Betina is a tiny town, you could walk around most of it in a few hours. The best way to enjoy an authentic experience while in this little town is to go boating! The Adriatic Sea is gorgeous, and it would be a waste to not enjoy some time out on the water while vacationing in Betina.

With the gentle, consistent winds of this region, spending a day (or a week) on a sailing charter is an unforgettable experience. Cruise at your leisure around tiny islands, coves, and through the glistening Adriatic with your captain who can tell you the history of this area. You can customize your itinerary to include meals and full sleeping accommodation.

Renting a motorboat or power yacht gives you freedom to explore further out. You can stop at the other islands and national parks in the surrounding area of Betina. Boats come equipped with everything you need for an enjoyable day. Cruise along the coast and stop at a beach, or venture out and explore uninhabited islands!

Kayaking and canoeing around Betina and the rest of Murter are popular choices because of how tranquil the area is. It’s far less touristy than Hvar or cities on mainland Croatia, with less boat traffic. This makes it a comfortable atmosphere for sporty travelers who want to spend a day paddling. Stand up paddleboarding is another popular choice among travelers who want to explore the coastline for a few hours at their own pace.

Fishing charters are an option for visitors to Betina, with trips leaving from the different towns on the island daily. You can expect to catch tuna and other fish while out with your captain dropping in your line! Most charters will arrange for transportation from your accommodation and provide a full-service experience while you're fishing.

    Boating Events in Betina

There aren’t any boating events right in Betina, but regattas do take place in the other towns on Murter. One noteworthy event that takes place in Betina is during the first Sunday in August. Known as “Brganje Day” this event celebrates shellfishing - with music, arts, and the folklore of the town being a focus of the festivities.

In April in the town of Kornati on Murter is the Kornati Cup, a sailing regatta that officially kicks off the summer sailing season. It’s a fun event to attend to see the sailboats and enjoy some of the special events taking place at restaurants and nearby seaside venues.

    Other Things To Do

Because of its small size, one wouldn’t expect there to be any sort of museum in Betina, but there is a Museum of Wooden Shipbuilding in the town. Betina has a rich history of being a site of wooden ship construction. It’s one of the few places on the Adriatic coast today that is still building wooden ships.

Betina has some lovely, family-owned restaurants in the town. Spend some time wandering the streets and stopping into these little taverns and cafes to enjoy some delicious, traditional Croatian and Mediterranean cuisine.

    Marinas in Betina

Marina Betina is the only marina located in Betina, but Marina Hramina is nearby in the town of Murter. They are both functional marinas with showers, an ATM, a restaurant, and other basic amenities. The workers are friendly and the marinas will have everything you need for your boating vacation. They are also nice places to go to admire the boats in their berths and watch sailors and captains cruise in and out of port.
