Anam Cara Anam Cara is a very cosy 40 ft traditional barge, that has recently been refurbished to a very high standard. Barges are flat bottomed boats that were used from 1780 to transport cargo and people to and from Dublin. Originally, barges were pulled using horse power. Luckily Meave has acquired an engine since so you won't have to start coaxing horses if you want to go somewhere! Barges are now lived on and are homes of choice for a large number of people. The barge community is very active and friendly; don't be afraid to say "Hi" and stop for a chat if you pass anyone along your voyage! Anam Cara is the perfect barge to rent. She is tastefully decorated in a way that will make you feel at home instantly. A barge holiday is a great way to relax and enjoy Ireland's canals and waterways. The Anam Cara Features Anam Cara is mostly enclosed. The enclosed sections are the living quarters.
