About Apo Island  At present, Apo Island is home to over 650 documented species of fish and estimated to have over 400 species of corals. Most of the Philippines 450 species of coral can be found here, from time bubble corals to huge gorgonian sea fans and brain corals. Visitors and tourists pay a fee to enter Apo Island and to snorkel or dive in the marine sanctuary there. These fees are used to keep the sanctuary clean and in good condition by the local government. Apo Island is a volcanic Island with 12 hectares of land area just a short banka boat ride from the coast of Negros Oriental, the Island is home to some of the ten dive sites in the world. Dive into crystal clear waters underwater visibility of up to 60 meters, discover shipwrecks, cliffs covered with sponges, colourful corals, gorgonians, turtles, shark, rays and even the very rarely seen exotic fishes like Spanish Dancer, harlequin ghost-pipefish, camouflaged frogfish and fire gobies. Thanks to the convergence of the nutrient rich waters of the Pacific Ocean, South China Sea and Celebes Sea, you will be a spectator to an aquatic symphony of over 2,000 species of marine fish as well as more than 400 out of the 500 known coral species in the world.
