We are offering short and long term charters of our vessel in the Bahamas where we have lived for over 40 years, or in Newfoundland, where we have just spent a summer sailing the fjords, and will stay until October. The sailing in the semi-protected waters of the Bahamas is some of the finest in the world, and August and September in Newfoundland are a truly memorable experience. Future trips to The San Blas islands of Panama and The Galapagos Islands are on our 2026 Schedule. Come and experience the feeling of exhilaration that our vessel provides. She is safe, comfortable and fast. The accommodations aboard are based on an IOR racing design concept, which means that while there are three distinct cabins, we have to work to ensure the comforts and safety of all aboard. The Aft cabin has one double and one single bunk that will be designated for use by the charterer. The aft cabin leads directly to the aft cockpit, where the sails are handled and the helmsman (or autopilots) drive the vessel. The Main Cabin has two designated bunks, one at the Navigation Station and one midships in the Main Cabin to port. To starboard is a full settee surrounding a table where meals are served. The Main Cabin also has direct access to the center cockpit, where the charter guests are welcome to relax at all times of the day. The forward cabin has a vee berth and sail storage and is where I will sleep. It has a large hatch allowing access to the deck. The head is a large (as boats of her size go), and has a toilet, shower and sink. Hot water is provided by 110V heater and in the sometimes hot Bahamian climate is not necessary. But for those like me who require a hot shower, it's there. The vessel has Starlink Global Roam wifi furnishing ample and reliable internet and phone connectivity. The stereo system is a Fusion and has Bluetooth capability. The Galley is spacious, with hot and cold running water, three burner LPG stove and oven, and basic utensils and food service. Part of any successful voyage is a plan. A four day trip does not allow much, so I encourage longer trips to fully experience the cruising ground to be covered. For those that can only book a shorter stay we will do our best, however for many reasons the vessel should only be underway during daylight hours, ensuring a full night's rest. Offshore, when the crew is qualified, we will stand watches, however this is a different level of sailing. To summarize; we will formulate a plan together taking the weather, tides, and crew capabilities, on the day of arrival. Before a booking has been accepted a questionnaire shall be completed by all charter guests to ensure safety and compatibility are established. Safety considerations play the most important part in our Voyage Plan and daily life aboard. So, we have a bit of safety observation time each day and consider aspects like liferafts, deck safety and fire prevention in a regular general "safety culture" discussion. Meals will be a group effort, as I have a number of things that require attention, and while I am able to contribute to the food preparation and cleanup, if the vessel is moving I may be required elsewhere. So, we make a meal plan, and likewise prepare and clean up together. My hope is that you will have a safe, memorable and fulfilling time aboard. Most who experience our vessel admire her pedigree, construction and comforts. Matthew Janes~ Cali, Colombia~ 27 August, 2025
“Andrea” is a 49’ version of the well known Swan 48, built in solid aluminum and is remarkable at sea. She has just completed an 1800 voyage to Southwest Newfoundland and will return to the Bahamas in October where she will spend the winter. She is a strong, seaworthy and very comfortable ocean sailor as well as suitable for expeditions. Her 11’ tender with 20 horsepower outboard stows on her spacious foredeck. Below she has spacious accommodation for up to 6. I enjoy teaching people the finer points of sailing and cruising while visiting such places as the Exuma Cays, the Fjords of Newfoundland and the Islands of the Azores. In 2026 we are planning to visit both the San Blas Islands of Panama and the Galápagos Islands.
You’ll get directions to the departure location when you make a booking.
