Visit the magical island of Taveuni for its famous waterfalls. Or for the more adventurous, chart a course for the remote and breathtaking Bay of Islands in Vanua Balavu. There you will find private beaches for miles, amazing underwater life, friendly and happy locals, hikes with incredible views, kayaking, fishing and relaxing.

QUIXOTIC [pronounced: kwik-sot-ik] is a South African-built Voyage Norseman 430 open-ocean sailing catamaran that has just undergone an extensive refit in 2016/2017. She is 43 feet long and 25 feet wide. She has new twin 3-cylinder Yanmar diesel engines and cruises at an average speed of 8 knots under power and can sail even faster.

She has four private queen-sized staterooms and three private heads (bathrooms) with an overnight guest capacity of six, with room for up to 16 guests on a day excursion. Each stateroom has a queen-sized berth with high-quality linens, excellent natural ventilation with 12v fans, reading lights, USB and 12v car plugs. The private heads are adjacent to each stateroom and feature flushing toilets, sink, mirror and hot water showers.

Her fully-equipped galley enables the Chef to prepare delicious meals. Her 100 liter-per-hour watermaker ensures ample fresh water aboard. Her storage capacity allows us to haul all the fun water toys including: unsinkable rigid tender with 20HP outboard, SCUBA compressor, snorkeling gear, kayaks, paddleboard, kiteboarding gear, fishing gear, and other toys. Her back deck and large swim platforms allow for easy boarding and make for a great place to fight in that big catch; the swim platform also has a hot water shower.

She is fully-equipped and well-tested for extended cruises to remote locations, carrying her passengers in safety and comfort. Please contact us for more details on the yacht.

Guest access

You will have exclusive use of the entire yacht and all her amenities and we can sail where you choose and stay as long or as little time as you would like (weather depending and final decision on routing and anchoring decisions made by the Captain).

QUIXOTIC has three private staterooms/cabins available. One cabin has a private bathroom, the other two cabins share a larger walk-through bathroom. Each cabin has a queen-sized bed with high-quality linens and pillows, excellent natural ventilation and fans.

Interaction with guests

QUIXOTIC is crewed by an experienced and professionally-certified sailing team. Rest assured that you are in the best hands.

Your Captain, Lewis Allen, holds a commercially-endorsed Master of Yachts 200 Tons Captain's License issued by the UK-based Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA). In addition to his Captains license Lewis holds STCW95-10 certificates relating to maritime safety, firefighting, first aid and sea survival. Since sailing from his home port of San Francisco, California in 2013, he has sailed over 20,000 nautical miles while exploring the Pacific Ocean and ultimately found paradise in Fiji. He loves sailing, SCUBA diving, fishing, kiting, and (when not on the water) motorcycling. Full resume and references available upon request.

Your First Mate, Chef and Stewardess, Alyssa Alexopulos, is a commercially-licensed and experienced bluewater sailor. She also holds STCW95-10 qualifications in maritime safety, firefighting, first aid, sea survival and other areas. Alyssa has sailed with Lewis for the past four years and together they have sailed approximately 40,000 nautical miles, combined. In addition to Alyssa's sailing qualifications, she's a natural-born hostess and also a very talented Chef with experience in fine dining in both San Francisco and Oahu, Hawaii and can offer an extensive menu of delicious international cuisine.

Some Reviews and Recommendations:

"We had an amazing time aboard quixotic. From arrival to departure we were made to feel welcome and comfortable.

Captain Lewis is an extremely capable skipper who knows his boat inside and out. We had a wonderful (and fast) time sailing, followed by peaceful, scenic nights at anchor thanks to his uncanny ability to find the best anchoring spot in any bay.

Chef Alyssa has perfected the art of hospitality. She served up a series of delicious meals, snacks, and drinks that would exceed expectations at a high end resort. After the first few days on board I started ignoring my husband when he told me to get the recipe after each meal, since I knew I'd never be able to match her skill in the galley.

The boat is a fast, well built sailing yacht that is a blast to sail. It also offers up all the creature comforts you could want after a day hiking the islands or playing in the water. Hot showers and ice cold drinks were especially welcome after a day of exploring the islands.

We really liked the clean cabins and bright airy salon. The boat is well laid out with lots of places to lounge inside or out. We especially enjoyed hanging out on the foredeck while sailing. Best seat in the house.

I'd recommend booking a trip on Quixotic to anyone who loves good food, fun sailing, and adventures in a beautiful setting."

"We were lucky to meet Lewis and Alyssa while in Savusavu. We went for a day sail with them and had an absolute blast! Quixotic is a beautiful and well outfitted boat, complete with hammock, spacious galley and sleeping berths, fishing gear, and of course, the best crew you could ask for. Alyssa is a world class chef, serving up sumptuous snacks, meals and exotic drinks. Lewis is a world class skipper who has confident command of his boat. They both are just good people to be around.

One of the highlights of our trip on Quixotic, was when we suddenly had a very large fish on the line that was trawling off the stern. What ensued was a 35 minute epic battle against a large yellowfin tuna. At the end of the battle, we were just about to gaff the beast when it suddenly broke the line and got away. The four of us let out a collective shout of “N(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)!”, as the classic one-that-got-away story concluded. We didn’t have a mound of sashimi for dinner that night, but Alyssa made an amazing meal anyway. As sunset approached, we were having such a good time, we decided to stay overnight with our new friends, who were gracious to accommodate us.

If you have a chance to sail aboard Quixotic with Lewis and Alyssa, just do it. You won’t regret it for a minute!"

"To Whom it May Concern,

I'm writing to recommend Lewis and Alyssa and their catamaran Quixotic to prospective charter clients.

There's an old saying; "choose the crew, not the boat" so I'll start with Lewis and Alyssa. I've had the pleasure of getting to know them quite well over the past two years. They are an extremely impressive team. Capable, smart, and industrious. Impeccable. Good natured and good humored. Their familiarity with Quixotic and her systems is exceptionally thorough. They both have a good deal of sailing experience, offshore and coastwise. Alyssa is an excellent cook and a natural hostess. Warmth and hospitality run deep in her DNA. Lewis is a fine boat operator and very resourceful. Great sense of humor, too.

I've been involved in the charter business off and on since 1972 and have known a number of charter boat crews in Hawaii, on both coasts, in Central America, the Caribbean, the Med, and the South Pacific. I consider Lewis and Alyssa to be as capable a team as any I've met in the industry.

Quixotic is an excellent charter platform. She offers spirited sailing performance and excellent accommodations. She's commodious, modern, well equipped, and impeccably maintained.

In short, if you select Quixotic you're going to be in excellent hands on a very fine vessel."

The charter rate does not include shore-based or third-party activities, alcohol or (optional) crew gratuities.

Upon booking we will send a price list of spirits, wine and beer available locally. Non-alcoholic drinks and mixers are stocked aboard and are included in your charter rate.

What's the best time of year to charter?
The weather is Fiji is warm and pleasant year-round with average high temps in the twenty six to thirty one degree C (seventy nine to eighty eight F) range. July-September is the winter and when the SE tradewinds are strongest so if you like brisk sailing, lower humidity and relatively cooler temps this is your time. April-June and October-December are transition months and the weather is idyllic with gentle SE trades, comfortable temps and pleasant sailing. January-March is cyclone (hurricane) season and also the warmest and most humid months; but if your dream holiday is flat calm anchorages, flat seas, hammock weather and water activites, this is your time.

What about strong winds or severe weather?
You can expect idyllic sailing conditions in 10-20 knots of wind out of the SE most of the year with brief periods of rain and calm as is expected in the tropics. If you visit outside of cyclone season the chance of severe weather impacting your holiday is extremely unlikely. If you book a charter during cyclone season (December - March) your chances of adverse weather impacting your trip is also very low - but if a named cyclone forces us to cancel your charter you can rest assured that we will provide a pro-rata refund or (at your option) reschedule the lost days, free of charge.

We know the local weather patterns well and will customize your itinerary to take full advantage of the weather forecasts during your visit. We will usually compile a list of possible destinations and then chart our planned course with you the day you arrive, taking best advantage of the wind and weather forecasts.

What do I bring?
This is Fiji so you don't need to bring much in the way of clothes or other items. As Jimmy Buffett said "I'm going where the weather suits my clothes." What he meant is shorts and flip-flops weather. Here in Fiji you'll spend a lot of time in light warm-weather clothing and swimwear. If you visit in our "winter" you may want a lightweight sweater or windbreaker for those star-gazing nights on the nets. You may also want to bring your favorite sunscreen and perhaps your preferred bug spray for those shore excursions.

Also, if you can bring a duffel or collapsible bag it will be much easier to store aboard than a big rigid rolling suitcase that may end up taking over your stateroom.

Can I bring my own SCUBA gear?
Yes, you can. If you bring your own gear we can supply tanks (with unlimited fills) and dive weights. These services are included in your charter rate. If you are not an experienced diver and/or do not bring your own gear we are happy to arrange a local dive operator to pick you up from the boat and take you diving. In some cases even the more exerienced divers may want to hire local operators since the local operators can sometimes take you to more remote or hard-to-access dive sites.

What is the typical duration of a charter?
While the requested duration of the charter will be up to you, we typically recommend planning for a week aboard. That allows time to settle in, sail to some amazing places, enjoy the activities we offer, and still find time to relax. A week is also the perfect amount of time for the most adventurous guests to evade any sign of boredom. That said, if you're the type who longs for extended days spent in the shade of the bimini swinging in the hammock or more time diving/kiting/surfing/etc. you may want a few extra days. We typically limit our charter durations to 10 days but exceptions can be made in some circumstances. Please let us know what you have in mind.

What is your cancellation policy?
More than 120 days before start of charter: FULL REFUND OF DEPOSIT (less processing fees)
119 - 61 days before start of charter: 50% REFUND OF DEPOSIT
60 - 31 days before start of charter: FORFEIT OF FULL DEPOSIT
Less than 30 days before start of charter: NO REFUND
