San Juan 21 Sailing Sloop For Day Sailing on Boothbay Harbor, Maine
Enjoy sailing around Boothbay Harbor, Maine! Rent this San Juan 21 Sailing sloop for up to 4 people. What To Expect Onboard: A 21-foot sailboat, great for daysails on Boothbay Harbor and out around Squirrel Island. The San Juan 21 sloops were built by the Clark Boat Company in the 1970's. Equipped with a 400-pound ballasted "Swing Keel," they are a fun, lively boat to sail -- easy enough for new sailors, but still exciting for experienced sailors. The San Juan 21 class is still actively raced as a one-design fleet in several locations around the country, with a devoted following. Both of our boats are equipped with mainsail, jib sail, life jackets, fenders, docklines, paddle, navigational chart, compass, and all other USCG required safety equipment. We can supply a handheld VHF radio if desired, as well as toddler, child, or youth lifejackets if needed. Our SJ21's have either a 4 or 6 hp outboard motor. The boats have a maximum capacity of 4 adults. The boats are available to qualified sailors subject to our Rental Agreement and Boat Rental Check Out. The navigation area is limited to Boothbay Harbor, Linekin Bay, and Booth Bay, out to the Cuckolds or Damariscove Island.

We rent power and sail boats in Boothbay Harbor, Maine the boating capital of New England. Have fun on the water! Our family business was incorporated in 2013. Most of us have been boating for virtually our entire lives, which adds up to over 125 years of combined experience. Based in Maine, we've sailed along the east coast from the Chesapeake to Nova Scotia, and in the western Atlantic ranging from Newfoundland to Bermuda. We look forward to helping you get out on the water this summer!

Our one-day bare-boat rental of a San Juan 21 from West Harbor Recreation in Boothbay, Maine went very well. The boat was in good shape and well maintained. It was equipped with all required safety equipment. Everything we used functioned well. The bays and islands around Boothbay are as beautiful as any in the world, but just a smidgen of navigational skill is required. Along with making sure that we had at least the required navigation ability and providing a chart, Tim did a good job of explaining the features of the boat. In moderate winds the boat moved along smartly (my smart phone said as much as 6 knots), and on average was fast enough for us to get to some small outer rocky islands inhabited by seals. I highly recommend West Harbor Recreation for sailboat rentals.

If you cancel within 10 days of your reservation, the payment is non-refundable unless we succeed in renting the boat to someone else, or if the weather or other condition is such that we would not let you take the boat out. Please Note: Maine’s coastal waters are littered with hazards to navigation, and prone to fog, shifting winds, changing tides and currents, all of which can be challenging to even experienced boaters. Operating a boat in these waters is not a care-free joy-ride, it requires constant vigilance. Right of Refusal: The renter must provide evidence satisfactory to our company of their knowledge and ability to operate and navigate the selected boat properly, safely, and in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations, including the “rules of the road.” Our company reserves the right to refuse rental in the event of prevailing or anticipated bad weather or reduced visibility, if the renter is deemed insufficiently knowledgeable or experienced, or if the renter or any member of their party appears intoxicated or otherwise in-capable of, ill-equipped, or ill-prepared for boating. Should we choose not to continue the rental, a full refund will be issued immediately. Company's acceptance of the renter does not absolve the renter of their full responsibilities as master of the vessel. Financial Responsibility: Our insurance policy does not extend to you! In renting this boat, you accept full financial responsibility for any and all costs arising from your use of the boat, including our lost revenue should the boat need to be taken out of service for repairs. But your liability extends well beyond damages to the boat, to include damages to the property of third parties, as well as medical costs due to injuries or loss of life. If you run the propeller onto a rock, you could be facing several thousand dollars in bills; if you are involved in a serious accident, you could be looking at millions of dollars in bills.... Acknowledgement of Risk : The renter acknowledges that boating, swimming, and other waterfront activities have an inherent risk of damage and injury, including the possibility of permanent disability, paralysis, or death. Renters and visitors using the dock, boats, swimming or exploring the shore do so entirely at their own risk. Our company and their lessors, contractors, employees, and officers, will not be responsible for injury, including death, to any person, nor for damages to any person’s property, sustained as a result of use of these boats or waterfront facilities. Release, Hold Harmless, and Indemnification: The renter agrees on behalf of all members of the renter’s party and any visitors or guests of the renter’s party, to release, hold harmless, and indemnify of the company, its lessors, contractors, employees, and officers from any and all liability or claims, including those of third parties, arising out of or in any way a result of renter’s or any guest’s use of our boats, waterfront facilities, equipment, or grounds to the fullest extent allowable by law. Are you prepared to be the master of your own vessel?
