The Don is a 35ft. Contender. The vessel was originally custom built for the U.S. Coast Guard. After only a few years of service, she was sold and converted into a sports fishing machine! She is fast and has dry, comfortable seating which makes a nice ride out of the weather. There is plenty of room for everyone to fish in the cockpit. She has bunks downstairs to sleep five, for our overnight trips and a separate stand up the bathroom.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have never been charter fishing, what do I need to know about fishing?

Absolutely nothing. Our crew members are there to assist you and make your charter trip as fun as possible. If you have a question, have a problem or just a curious mind, don't hesitate to ask the captain and his crew...we'll put our fishing experience to work for you.

What’s included in the price of a charter?

Our charters supply the rod and reel, on board cold storage for fish, fish cleaning (with tip and/or surcharge depending), bottled water, and the opportunity to enjoy time on the open sea.

Do I need a fishing license to fish on your boat?

No. All passengers are covered under our recreational charter boat license.

What do I need to bring for my trip?

The essentials are...

• Sun block! (Make sure you wash any sun block or lotions off your hands!!! Saltwater fish have no need or desire for the taste or smell of lotions), hat, sunglasses and light colored clothes are suggested for the summer months. Warmer clothes and wind block gear are suggested in the winter months.
• Any food and soft drinks you would like for duration of the trip.
• White soled sneakers or deck shoes. No black soled shoes please.
• Sea sick prevention pills or patch. If you feel you are susceptible to motion sickness, we suggest you take Dramamine, Bonine or any other brand the night before your trip, then just before you get on board. All local pharmacies carry them, as well as patches for more advanced cases.

What should I leave behind?

Please do not bring the following aboard. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

• Illegal Drugs or Contraband
• Hard Liquor or glass bottles/containers of any kind
• Dark Soled or Hard Soled shoes (boat shoes, or sneakers are suggested)
• GPS or Loran type navigational devices
• Cell Phones

Can I bring my own rods/reels and tackle?

You can if you wish (2 per person max.), but it must be approved by the captain and crew because there are some lines, hooks and rods that are just not acceptable for various reasons. Please listen to your captain as he knows what catches the most fish from years of experience. However, bringing your own rods and tackle is not necessary as we provide them for you on board.

Can I bring a cooler on board?

Our on board coolers are available for your personal use. We ask that you plan on using them to prevent clutter on deck. We do suggest you bring a cooler in your vehicle to carry your filets home. We will gladly ice your cooler for you.

What time do we leave?

Departure times are different based on the type of trip you are booking. Your captain or mate will assist you with any logistics while you are planning your trip.

What do we catch?

There are over 30 kinds of edible reef fish in the Gulf of Mexico. Red grouper, gag grouper, red snapper, mangrove snapper (mango), vermillion snapper (mingo), trigger, king mackerel, flounder, porgies and just about anything else that swims and eats is out there. Our boat prides itself on being able to fish for anything and everything. If you have something you want to fish for, please make your captain aware of your desires; although some seasons of the year are better than others for certain species.

What if it rains while we are fishing?

Fish tend to be wet already, so if you can stand the rain it will probably not affect the fishing! The rain can also be a wonderful thing in the heat of the day, but if there is rain in the forecast, you may want to add rain gear to your list of things to bring. Also remember, just because it's raining at your
hotel, condo or at the beach doesn't mean it is raining in the Gulf where you will be fishing. The boat also has dry seating out of the weather.

What is your cancellation policy?

To receive a full refund of your deposit, we ask that you give us no less than 7 days notice prior to scheduled departure date and time. Trips cancelled by us anytime prior to departure, due to weather, mechanical, or other unforeseen circumstances will be refunded within 7 days of cancellation.

Should you tip the crew?

Yes. Tips are customary unless otherwise noted by the captain. The crew of a charter work hard to make sure that you have bait, that when you bring aboard your catch it is removed quickly, you are baited and in the water as fast as possible and that your catch is on ice immediately. Most charters also include the cleaning and bagging of your catch in the tip, but if you are not sure please ask your captain. 20% of your total charter price is customary as a tip. If you decide to give a little more... well, hard work deserves a just reward... right?
