There are many places to drop off and pick up rental boats, but here are a few with designated passenger pickup and drop-off areas:

  • Cedar Hill State Park: Two boat ramps. A $5 entry fee. Included a courtesy dock for loading and unloading boats, and an adjacent asphalt parking area which hold about 100 vehicles. The park opens at 8 a.m.
  • Loyd Park boat ramp: There is a lone boat ramp with four lanes. The park's admission fee is $10, and it grants access to the boat ramp. The park is open around the clock, every day of the year.
  • Lynn Creek Marina boat ramp: A single 2 lane boat ramp. Call for hours and fees (817) 640-4200.

Party Boat Operator License:

You need a Party Boat Operator License to run a charter boat on inland waters, excluding sailboats, that is at least 30 feet long and carries more than six passengers. This requirement is waived if you already have a USCG OUPV License or a higher-level Captain's License.

Registration:

It is necessary to reach out to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers . You can visit the USACE office located at 6399 FM1382 Dallas, Texas 75249 or by calling (972) 298-2744.

You will need to provide the following information:

  • The hull identification number (HIN) of the boat.
  • The make and model of the boat.
  • The boat's dimensions in terms of length and width.
  • Specifics about the boat's engine, including type and horsepower.
  • The name and address of the boat's owner.
  • The name of the boat's captain along with their license number

The registration fee varies depending on the type and size of the boat, as well as the activity you will be using it for.

Additional Information:

  • All commercial boats must be registered with the USACE.
  • Commercial boats must have a valid state boat safety inspection.Your boat must have the required safety equipment. This includes a life jacket for each person on board, a fire extinguisher, a first-aid kit, and a sound-producing device.
  • Commercial fishing boats must have a valid commercial fishing license.
  • You must comply with all other applicable boating laws and regulations. These include laws regarding navigation, anchoring, and fishing.
  • You must have a valid boater education certificate. This is required for all boaters born after September 1, 1993 who operate motorized watercrafts over 15HP or wind-blown vessels over 14ft.
  • A party boat operator license is required for any vessel (excluding sailboats) carrying more than six passengers and with a length of 30 or more feet, operating on inland waters.
  • The speed limit on Joe Pool Lake is 55 mph.
  • Commercial boats are prohibited from operating in certain areas of the lake, such as the swimming area and the boat launch areas. Boats are prohibited from operating within 100 feet of the shoreline.
