Life Jackets

Life jackets must be easy to reach, in good condition, and the right size for the person wearing them. All boats 16 feet or longer, except canoes and kayaks, must also have a throwable flotation device on board that is approved by the US Coast Guard. This device can be used to throw to someone in the water.

All children 12 years old and younger must wear a US Coast Guard-approved life jacket at all times while on a boat. The life jacket must be worn as recommended by the manufacturer and must fit snugly. All snaps, zippers, and fasteners must be closed.

Every person on a personal watercraft, such as a Jet Ski or Wave Runner, must wear a US Coast Guard-approved life jacket with all fasteners and closures secured as recommended by the manufacturer. The life jacket should also be adjusted to fit snugly.

Every person being towed behind a boat on water skis or a similar device must wear a life jacket.

Additional Facts

A Tonto Discovery Pass or a Tonto Daily Pass and Watercraft Sticker are required for boating.
