Sail on Wheelchair Accessible Catamaran around the Solent in England

Come, sail with us on the Solent in the UK! Book 35' cruising catamaran for up to 10 people. This is a wheelchaired accessible catamaran so you can take all types of disabled people to enjoy the Solent. Rates as low as £240 per day for the yacht. What You Can Expect: We are glad you are coming sailing with us and look forward to having you along for what we hope will be a fun and interesting trip. To help make the time a success there are a few things we need to tell you and a bit of paperwork for you to do for us. We will try and keep it as brief as possible. Our yacht operates in and around the Solent in the UK (guests 2 to 10) to have the yacht for you and your group and this including a qualified skipper and mate to help you do as much or as little of the actual sailing as you wish. All the controls on the yachts are accessible and you will be encouraged to do as much, or as little as you want to do. You are only a passenger with RoRo if you wish to be. What to Expect Onboard: 'Scott Bader was designed to be a 'light air' sailing yacht and has an amazing performance easily reaching 3 to 4 knots in a force 2 breeze. Tacking and jibing is a delight in this 35 foot long 20-foot wide cruising yacht, I know many dinghies that are much more difficult to sail. Reefing in at force 3 seems a little strange at first but it is necessary to restrain this lively beast that always seems to be raring to go. The overall design was undertaken by Alistair Wood of Solution Design Associates (SDA) and Phil Morrison and they produced a truly superb craft. The decision to create a new yacht offered SDA the opportunity to re-evaluate established thinking, resulting in a dramatic and practical new style of the sailing catamaran. The most revolutionary innovation is the adoption of the aft saloon and center cockpit (which can be covered). This offers single level access between the cockpit and saloon while retaining unimpeded forward visibility from both the saloon and the wheelchair accessible helm. Sailing is also simplified and made safer as all operations, including hosting and reefing the mainsail can be carried out without leaving the cockpit. The additional shelter is provided by an all-round windscreen, access is via the aft boarding ramps, which can, naturally, be deployed by a wheelchair user. Side and fore decks are wide enough for a wheelchair, accessed via the spacious side deck steps. Thoughtful touches include wheelchair access to the stowage offenders and mooring warps in the transoms, raked helm to clear the knees of wheelchair users. Designed from the outset to allow differently-abled sailors to mix freely on an equal basis, the bridge-deck area has a completely flat floor throughout. Good all-round visibility was a priority, allowing anyone to sit facing forward and watch the scenery and the activity in the cockpit from the warmth of the saloon. There is plenty of room at the table to allow everyone to gather round at meal times or to study charts. There is storage under the front of the berths and hanging space to the side. A deck hatch has been sited low down at the end of the berth for ventilation and to allow swift escape in an emergency to a disabled person. Six-foot headroom is available throughout. In the starboard hull, the access arrangements and aft cabin are identical to the starboard side. Forward in the hull is another double cabin with a good sized locker.
