In Port Alberni, our salmon fishing charter boats regularly hook into as many as 10-25 of these tasty sockeye salmon during most June and July mornings. Arriving with or just behind the Chinooks are enormous numbers of feisty Coho Salmon. These acrobatic salmon are pound for pound, one of the most exciting salmon one can hook into. Chinook Salmon return every year to the Alberni Inlet by the tens of thousands in early summer then move on to Port Alberni during the mid to latter part of August and into September. The majority of these salmon are in the 25-35 lb range. Chinook Salmon are the largest of the five salmon species, and can be a handful for even the most experienced angler.
