What You Can Expect:

We run from June through November from our docks in Gloucester, Massachusetts. Fishing for Blue sharks and Makos is an exciting way to spend a day at sea. We like to anchor up and chum up a big shark. Of course we "accidentally" hook a giant bluefin tuna on many occasions. Hey - stuff happens. One of our favorite expressions is: "If you chum, they will come."

Bluefin Tuna
We welcome you to join us for an awesome giant bluefin tuna charter.
Giant bluefin tuna charters run from June through mid-November from our docks in Gloucester, Massachusetts. The Cape Ann - Gloucester area is know the world over for the massive schools of giant bluefin tuna that migrate here. The Japanese prize our tuna - known as "Boston Bluefin tuna" as the finest sushi tuna found anywhere.

Captain Bluefin and the crew aboard the Sandy B are true fishing fanatics. We love to fish for cod fish, haddock and striped bass. While we love to fish for cod, haddock and striped bass, there is something extra special about a giant bluefin tuna charter. The anticipation starts to build while rigging baits at our docks in Gloucester, MA the night before a tuna charter and keeps on building. It's tough to sleep the night before a tuna fishing charter.

Tuna will begin to bite while trolling towards the end of May. This time of year is the time to troll for giant bluefin tuna. Trolling for giant bluefin tuna is an art not easily learned. Capt. Bluefin has spent many years mastering the techniques and attention to detail required to successfully troll up a giant tuna.

Some years the troll bite lasts the entire season. Other years by July fourth the tuna have "settled in" and are more likely to bite while anchored up chumming or flying our kite with live bait. Watching a tuna "air out" attacking a kite bait is an unbelievable sight! Aboard the Sandy B the goal is to catch fish. If the fish are biting while anchored up chumming, that's where you will find us. We are equally at home anchored up chumming or trolling. We do what it takes to HOOK UP tuna on the Sandy B.

What To Expect Onboard:

The "Sandy B" is large, solid and safe. Launched in 2009, the Sandy B is a 37 Foot Duffy Hull and top finished by Cape Island Boats.

The F\V "Sandy B II" was custom built in the year 2009 to Capt. Bluefin's specifications. She is powered by a 715 HP Cummins all electronic diesel with ZF marine gear. Throttle and shifting are Glendenning "fly by wire" controls. The wheelhouse is literall crammed with electronics. There is plenty of seating in the wheelhouse for those rainy days. Below in the fo'c'sle we have four bunks for those extended overnight trips.

Our large rear deck has a big fishbox for icing down the catch. LD Marine Products rod holders line the gunwales. We use LD's 22 foot outriggers for trolling striper and tuna. THe back deck also has a set of Glendenning electronic controls for running the boat while "hooked up".

The fishing vessel Sandy B is equipped with a host of advanced electronics. We went with the largest Northstar display we could fit on the dashboard. Integrated into the Northstar are the gps, fishfinder, and digital radar. The Northstar is fitted with high resolution navigation and bathymetric charts. We have interfaced our autopilot, radio, engine management system and LCD to the Northstar as well. Redundancy has always been important. Backup navigation consists of our furuno gps interfaced to a 17 inch Laptop. Of course the laptop is also equipped with the latest navigation and bathymetric charts. She is a comfortable boat with kindly manners in a bad sea. We absolutely love our new boat.
