Owner:George and Franki
Who we are Twenty plus years ago, Franki and George took a beginner's sailing class similar to the one they offer today, and they were hooked. They followed up with United States Coast Guard Auxiliary courses that focused on sailing, seamanship and navigation. That led to chartering a boat for several years in the Chesapeake Bay area before purchasing their first sailboat. Over the years they also "bareboat" chartered in the Caribbean, sailing around islands such as St. Maarten and St. Barts. In January, 2015, they bought their current vessel, a 40' Island Packet "380" "Papagayo", a sturdy, safe and comfortable cruising sailboat. In 2004 - 2005, Franki and George sailed down the Chesapeake Bay, through the Intra-coastal Waterway (ICW), to Florida and then over to the Bahamas. During their year at sea, they cruised through the islands of the Bahamas as far south as the Tropic of Cancer before returning to the East Coast and exploring the northern Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. During the winter and spring of 2012 - 2013, they retraced the steps of their first journey and returned to the Bahamian island chain, visiting some of their favorite spots from their 2004 - 2005 trip while exploring new ones. Together they look forward to sharing their passion for sailing and helping you realize your dream to "get away from it all." Franki is a Registered Nurse, and spent her career as an Intensive Care Nurse, then as Nursing faculty at several colleges and universities. She is an experienced sailor having crewed on catamaran and heavy displacement cruising boats. She has sailed in the Gulf of Mexico and the Leeward Islands of the Caribbean. She has also completed five transits of the ICW, and equipped and guided their boat during two cruises to and from the Bahamas. Recently, she crewed on a catamaran which earned a second-place finish in the "Around Stocking Island Race" and the "In Harbor Race" in Great Exuma, Bahamas. She is also certified in First Aid and CPRAED.In addition to his sailing experience, George is a United States Coast Guard Captain, holding a Masters 50 Ton Inland Waters license with a Sailing Endorsement. He is also a member and past Flotilla Commander in the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary. Among his duties with the Auxiliary, he has participated in Search and Rescue operations on the Chesapeake Bay, stood watch at nearby United States Coast Guard Station Milford Haven and performed vessel safety checks for the public. He is also an instructor with the Auxiliary, and has taught subjects such as Basic Sailing, Aids to Navigation, Basic Coastal Navigation and Advanced Coastal Navigation. He is a Certified Boating Safety Instructor for the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries and is also certified in First Aid and CPRAED.
