What You Can Expect: Cruise and Learn Vacations Proposed Itinerary Day One - Saturday Arrive in Fat Hogs Bay on Tortola by 5:00 PM. in time to stow your gear and meet fellow sailors. We'll do a safety walk through, orientation and chart review. Then enjoy a cocktail hour as captains and crew get acquainted. Dinner on your own at a local restaurant. You will spend the night aboard. The next morning we are ready to set sail for your sailing week of adventure! Day Two - Sunday Today you will acclamate yourself to life at sea, cover basic sailing terms, parts and maneuvers. Lunch and snorkel at the "Dogs" then onto our overnight anchorage at Marina Cay. Dinner at Donovan's Reef or Marina Cay. Day Three - Monday This is our heavy weather and reefing day. We will practice "heave-to", reefing and build on our skills from the previous day. We sail for Virgin Gorda Sound. Overnight in North Sound. Day Four - Tuesday Learn the rudiments of Coastal Navigation as we sail early for the beautiful reef island of Anegada. Today will test your navigation skills. Here you will experience this undeveloped reef island that is famous for shell fish and monster lobsters. Explore miles of secluded beach for a 1/2 day and evening on your own. Day Five - Wednesday As crew you will put your newly acquired skills to work to navigate and sail the yacht back to the gorgeous island of Virgin Gorda for an afternoon of snorkeling at the famous "Baths". Overnight at Spanish Town or Cooper Island. Day Six - Thursday Bring all your skills together day for a fun day of sailing adventure. We will also complete our day with man-overboard maneuvers as well as other safety maneuvers at sea. Overnight at Cooper Island or Peter Island. Day Seven - Friday An early morning sail back to home port will be the finale to the trip. Arriving at Fat Hogs Bay by 10:00 am gives you time for some duty free shopping before arriving home happy, tanned and ready for your next sailing adventure! Bon Voyage! What To Expect Onboard: Blithe Spirit II has all that is needed for a well maintained charter boat including a three burner working stove, spacious fridge, microwave, toaster-oven, 3.5 cubic feet freezer, built in wine rack and bar, ice machine, double sink, and lots of room for dishes and provisions and, of course, nice counter space. Blithe Spirit II can even boast a washing machine on board. The water maker on board helps the owners ensure that fresh water is always at hand. If you are the “green” type (like us)! We have a high output wind generator, solar panels(over 500W) to go with your life style, and yet, also a 6.5 kw generator in case… Whether you want to learn the beautiful sport of sailing or whether you want to be pampered with a unique sail experience in the islands, Blithe Spirit II and her owners are ready to ensure that you can have either or both! Frequently Asked Questions: How many students do you teach on a boat at a time? We have a maximum of 6 students per boat. Do we sail in bad weather? Yes. We teach you how to sail in all types of weather. We will never put you in danger, but we feel that learning in all types of weather will prepare you better and you will be a more confident sailor when the time comes to charter your own boat. What other expenses are involved? You are responsible for all your travel expenses and hotels. Also any other expenses and a few dinners that you have while you are not on the boat. What kind of food is provided? We provide most breakfasts, most lunches, and 1 dinner cooked aboard the boat. We also provide snacks, soft drinks, and water. We do not provide alcohol, but you are welcome to bring your favorite adult beverage aboard. Typical breakfasts are muffins, fruit, eggs, sausage, bagels, coffee, juice. Lunches are deli meat sandwiches, pasta salads, fruits, and chips. The dinners are usually game hens or a fish or pasta meal. If you have special dietary needs, or are allergic to certain foods, please let us know prior to your trip. Can we snorkel or scuba dive? We do provide snorkel gear and you will have a few opportunities to snorkel along the way. You may wish to bring your own mask if you have good gear. However, our boats are not equipped for scuba diving. We can give you the names of a few dive centers that do day dives before. Tipping? If you enjoyed your trip feel free to let your Captain know. Can we stay on the boat the night before? You will be staying on the boat the first night -ie Saturday night. However, due to clean-up for the next class, you will not be able to stay overnight upon your return. What if I am single? If you are a single male or female: if another male or female signs up for the same trip, we will have you share a cabin. (Male with male and female with female.) If another single male or female does not sign up, you will have your own cabin at no additional cost. Do you do customized sailing courses? Yes! Just email us with the dates you have in mind, how may people will be crewing, and if you are going for fun or if you want to do a "cruise and learn". We will get back with you on prices. Are there any additional fees for certifications? No! The fee for your BVI week **includes** certifications…there is no additional cost. This includes your sailing manuals, logbook, testing materials, and certification stickers. What is your policy on children? We can suggest that if you have a number of people interested in going together, we can arrange a private trip and include your children. We love teaching kids to sail.... however, our trips are geared towards adults.
