River trips are not only about the white water, they are the culmination of every detail we love about the outdoors intertwined with the personal aspect of the trip—a quiet conversation on a boat or a new relationship formed in just a few short days.Jacob and I met as teenagers in 1990 and immediately found that each of our families rich heritage involving the great outdoors to be a common love. Working as river guides during the summer months, the dream of becoming outfitters took shape. Our mission was to continue doing what we love together, sharing Hells Canyon and Salmon River experiences with our family, friends, and community. Here we are 24 years later—2 business degrees, 17 years of marriage, 3 children, 1 dog, and 14 years in business. With a million more river memories to add we are still in the process of fulfilling our original goal. It has not always been easy, and some things have not turned out as we planned, but one thing we have learned is that a day on the river with our family—our kids, guests, and guides—makes every bit of our journey worth the effort. This is who North Star is and what it means to us. We will continue to keep our eyes ahead, on the prize of continued growth of our dream, and run the race with integrity, grace, and joy. We hope you will join us on our journey.
