Frequently Asked Questions: • When do your charters begin and finish each year? - We will begin the first charter immediately after the wet season which is usually by mid March, with our last charter before the wet which is November/December. Both March and December can still be wet but the fishing in these months is optimum. Be sure to contact us to see our operating dates as they can change during heavy monsoonal activity. • What hours do we fish? - A normal fishing day will usually start early in the morning between 6-8am and go through to before sunset but this will vary on clients requests or if the fish are on the bite. Of course, there will be meal times arranged to fit in with the fishing. The good thing about mother ship fishing is that the main boat is never too far away from the fishing grounds, which gives the flexibility of you picking and choosing your fishing times. • How much luggage can I bring? - Qantas link flies from Cairns to Weipa twice daily on most days and restricts luggage to 1 item of 20kg so if you have a rod tube we suggest that you tape it to your bag. • Can I keep the fish I catch? - Whilst onboard you can eat as much fish and crabs as you like however, we do not encourage anglers come with a vision of stocking their home freezers with fish. We are primarily a catch and release fishing charter operation and share the view that our resource is too valuable to promote the mass killing of fish . • What if there is a medical emergency? All of our boats have VHF radios and are always in contact with each other, and the main boat for safety reasons . Onboard the Eclipse D we have a fully stocked Royal Flying Doctors Medical First Aid kit onboard and a Satellite phone and VHF Radio to make contact. We have the ability to arrange evacuation at short notice if necessary and all our crew are trained in first aid procedures.
