We, of course, will have a general sail plan…..but there are over 17,000 islands to explore in Indonesia, so you can completely customize your time aboard and keep it flexible. Here are some sample itineraries: 4 Day Komodo Trip - Flores/Komodo National Park Welcome to our Komodo Trip, this is the most requested of our Scheduled trips. You will be cruising through all the islands from Labuan Bajo, Flores to Komodo, and there are literally 1000's to see. Komodo National Park is a world famous Dive destination teaming with fish life but to get there we will sail past islands with waterfalls, volcanic lakes and more within walking distance from the beach. You can snorkel with Manta, Dive with Sharks, explore the unbelievable beaches with your Stand Up Paddle, or simply sit back with a good book and a bean bag on our decks. What To Expect Onboard: Our Boat originally named "Bulan Purnama" which translates in English to "Full Moon" was built in 1999 in Tanjung Bira, Sulawesi, Indonesia by Bougis carpenters. Bulan Purnama was built in the traditional manner as a classic Pinisi with western modifications. "Bualan Purnama" is one of the very few Charter vessels in Indonesia that offer Stand Up Paddles aboard. So you will be free to really explore the beaches……and if you have a SUP at home, why travel with your SUP when we have 2014 models on board. these are the perfect watercraft to explore local beaches as we arrive at the islands.  If you have never been on a SUP before, no problem. We are here to help you and we will help you learn. If you are feeling confident then we can take you into some waves…..a great water sport to compliment your other activities whilst on this trip. Currently, the History books are being revisited in regard to these vessels. New information highlighted within Gavin Menzies recent works 1421 and 1434, with corresponding reference material, indicates the Indonesian ports major involvement during the 1400's when the enormous Chinese fleet's passed through the islands. Critical knowledge was gained during this era and is reflected in the earlier 'banana' shape of the vessel's, similar to the Chinese junks used for the major expeditions of that time. The Evolution of the Indigenous Wooden Sailing Vessel in Indonesia has indeed taken some interesting turns over time. It has been studied by many, but perhaps the most comprehensive are by Michael Kasten, Kasten Marine.  Today the sailing 'Pinisi' hull form in many ways resembles a cross between two traditional American sailing vessel types, the Pinky Schooner and the Tancook Whaler, even though the 'Pinisi' hull type pre-dates those Western hull forms by centuries... In other words, in its original form, the 'Pinisi' was a double ended hull type, having sharply raked stem and stern post. There was not a centerline rudder, however, as with the American craft. Instead, the local Indonesian craft has most often made use of twin rudders, one on each aft quarter. Used both as transport and as cargo vessels, the craft we are calling 'Pinisi' have traditionally been built on the beach, where the logs have come from the forests of Sulawesi (Celebes), Kalimantan (Borneo), Java (Jawa) and Irian Jaya, then transported to the boat building sites.
