What You Can Expect: Langkawi is located in Southeast Asia just above the Equator, Malaysia’s distinctive cultural mix of people mirrors its unique geography. The country is split into two halves: Malaysia occupies the southern half of the Malay Peninsula, and across the South China Sea lie the East Malaysian states of Sarawak and Saba. The Langkawi archipelago sits off Malaysia’s northwest coast, in the Andaman Sea. This cluster of islands offers plenty of protected anchorages in all wind and sea conditions, and their northern beaches and bays are among the finest in the world. Langkawi is a gorgeous cruising area, featuring high cliffs and hundreds of potential excursions. Swim in a freshwater lake, or visit the wildlife sanctuary to see sea eagles and monkeys. The islands of Langkawi will serve as your gateway to unspoiled paradise and an unforgettable sailing adventure. Weather Temperatures: Malaysia has an equatorial climate, characterized by consistent average high temperatures of 26°C (79°F) to 29°C (82°F), high humidity & rainfall in the wet season only, and light/moderate winds. High season: November-April. The rainy season lasts from May – October, but the island of Sumatra provides some protection from southwest monsoon, which brings southwesterly winds of less than 15 knots. Frequently Asked Question Everything you need to know about bareboat yacht charters. What is a bareboat yacht charter? A bareboat yacht charter is where you hire the boat for you and your guests and intend to sail yourself or hire one of our skippers to sail it for you. Where do you offer bareboat charters? We have +50 destinations worldwide and +1,000 yachts, including the Caribbean, Bahamas, Pacific, Indian Ocean, Asia and the Americas. What licenses do I need to hire a yacht and sail myself? The skipper of a yacht has primary responsibility for the safety of the crew and yacht at all times. To charter in the Mediterranean, you must hold an ICC (International Certificate of Competence) or RYA Day Skipper (minimum) qualification. One sailing license is mandatory for bareboat charters in Italy, Sweden, Greece, Turkey, Croatia, Seychelles, Montenegro, Brazil, Thailand and Spain. The original certificate must be taken with you on your charter. We advise you to contact our team about your qualifications and the destination requirements before booking. By accepting the yacht contract you are confirming that you and/or members of your crew are capable and competent to sail the yacht in the conditions and cruising area of charter. We reserve the right not to hand over the yacht if, after inspection, it is the opinion that the charterer is not, or may not be competent to be in charge of the vessel. What is included? • Yacht, dinghy & outboard • Marina mooring: First and last night at our base • Fuel and water: All of our yachts are delivered to you with full tanks of fuel (yacht & dinghy), full tank of water, one bottle of cooking gas + one spare. Please note that contents vary by destination • Damage waiver: Insurance with a lower excess has been added to your quote and is mandatory in some destinations. You can pay a higher damage waiver deposit at the base, which is fully refundable if there is not any damage or loss to the boat, dinghy and equipment. The damage waiver, or refundable security deposit, is designed to cover one incident of a substantial nature at any one time. In the case of loss or damage to equipment of significant value, such as the outboard engine or dinghy, you have the right to an immediate replacement while on the charter What is not included? Our yachts are well maintained and undergo regular, scheduled technical inspection. In case of emergency, you can rely on our hotline, at any time, seven days a week. If you experience a technical failure affecting major and important parts of the yacht, we will repair the failure within four hours of receiving your call during working hours (8am to 5pm). If you lose more than four hours (during working hours), we will compensate you for one full day. If the repair takes more than one day, we will provide you with a similar boat or compensate you on a pro-rata basis. If restrictions to this guarantee apply in specific areas, this will be detailed during the charter check-in at the base. What briefing do you give at base?
