Kids Trip

Kids Trip 2 hours:  A very introductory fishing, boating, and sight-seeing experience that keeps you within sight of land and may range as far as 3 miles offshore. Total fishing time is roughly an hour which gives enough time to see the ocean, get a feel for being on a boat and of course, catch some fish. The trip will offer bottom fishing for Sea Bass, Sea Bream, and other small bottom fish. It is very common to see Dolphins on this trip.

½ Day Nearshore

½ Day Nearshore, 4 hours: This trip will keep you within sight of land, typically fishing out to 5 miles offshore. Total fishing time is roughly 3 hours. The trip typically includes trolling for Spanish Mackerel and Bluefish, bottom fishing for Sea Bass and Shark drifting. Targeted Species: Sea Bass, Spanish Mackerel, Bluefish, Shark

½ Day Offshore

½ Day Offshore, 6 hours: This trip will typically range out to 20 miles offshore. Total fishing time is roughly 4 ½ hours. This trip typically utilizes live bait, slow trolling to target top-water trophy game fish. Targeted Species: King Mackerel, Barracuda, Shark, Mahi, Cobia, Sailfish, Amberjack

Cape Fear Shark Drifting

Cape Fear Shark Drifting, 7 hours:  This trip will carry you to the famed and dangerous waters of the Cape Fear River Channel, home to a variety of large Sharks including  Blacktip, Spinner, Lemon, Bull, Hammerhead and Tiger Sharks.  Total fishing time is roughly 5 hours.  The trip typically includes trolling for Spanish Mackerel and Bluefish to use as bait and then drift fishing for the Sharks, using chunks of the freshly caught fish to lure the big Sharks to bite your hook.  The Cape Fear is THE best Shark fishing in the area, and if you are looking to fight a trophy fish without having to travel out of sight of land, this is the trip for you.  Targeted Species: Shark

¾ Day Offshore

¾ Day Offshore, 8 hours: This trip will typically range out to 35 miles offshore. Total fishing time is roughly 5 ½ hours, not much more than the ½ day offshore trip, but you will be fishing grounds that are much more productive. This trip typically includes an option of live bait, slow trolling to target top-water trophy game fish or bottom fishing to target great eating bottom fish. Targeted Species: King Mackerel, Barracuda, Shark, Mahi, Cobia, Sailfish, Amberjack, Snapper, Grouper, Sea Bass.

Gulf Stream Fishing

Gulf Stream, 10 hours: This trip will typically range out to 50 miles offshore. Total fishing time is roughly 7 hours. You will be fishing the most productive fishing grounds the area has to offer. The trip typically includes live bait, slow trolling to target top-water trophy game fish with an option to also target great eating bottom fish as well. If you are particularly interested in Snapper and Grouper, this is the trip you need to take. Targeted Species: Grouper, Snapper, King Mackerel, Barracuda, Shark, Mahi, Cobia, Sailfish.

Gulf Stream Trolling and Jigging

Gulf Stream Trolling and Jigging, 13 hours: This trip will take you to the edge of the Gulf Stream and continental shelf, over 60 miles offshore where you will likely encounter some of the biggest, strongest and best eating game fish in the ocean. Total fishing time is roughly 9 hours. The trip typically includes trolling to target top-water trophy game fish with an option to also deep-water, vertical jig for big bottom fish. This trip is for serious fishermen as the ride offshore will take 2-3 hours. However, the bounty of the Gulf Stream can be very rewarding. Targeted Species: Tuna, Wahoo, Mahi, Sailfish, Marlin, Grouper, Snapper, Amberjack

What To Expect Onboard:

Emma Rose is built by Rodman. A company located In Spain that builds boats for the Spanish Navy. Their ships are considered the finest in the world. This model was manufactured to take the seas rounding the tip of South Africa that are some of the roughest on the planet.

She is a “Walk Around” boat, which means you can literally walk all the way around the boat in complete safety. Fewer tangled lines mean more fish!

She is outfitted with all the equipment and licenses needed to fish. All you need bring is your food and beverage  If you do have a special rod you want to bring aboard, you are welcome to do so. She has a complete head, shower, and kitchen and includes sleeping accommodations for four. Her inside cabin is luxurious and fitting for fishing.

Her top speed is close to 40 miles per hour (35 knots). Her normal (most efficient) cruising speed is around 26.5 MPH (22 knots) that means you can get to the Gulf Stream comfortably in about 3 hours. She will reach the most teeming fishing spots in much less than an hour. That also means that if a storm comes up we can get you home quickly and safely

She is kept spick-‘n-span because I want your party to have a comfortable, safe and wonderful experience!

A View From the Top

Trolling is the preferred method for catching the biggest game fish in our waters. Catches while trolling often result in the largest species of big game fish, using big rods, big bait and plenty of patience. The Emma Rose is outfitted with state of the art redundant electronics, fishing equipment, lures and tackle to maximize fishing opportunities. While catches can be significant, this is usually a quality and not a quantity experience most often enjoyed by the more serious fisherman. Targeted species include Dolphin (Mahi mahi) King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, Tuna, Wahoo, Amberjack and False Albacore.

A View From the Bottom

Bottom Fishing gives our fisherman the highest percentages for fish catching rod bending success. With over 50 reefs, wrecks and Captain Frank’s famous “Honey Holes” bottom fishing is a favorite for all fishermen; most especially where the continuous action is important. When the water is right and the fish are ready, 100+ fish days are not uncommon. Remember, bottom fishing in Long Bay yields some of the most desired eating fish you can catch anywhere. Targeted species include Black Sea Bass, Flounder, Grouper, Snapper, Spotted Sea Trout.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if the weather is bad?

If the weather conditions are deemed unsafe or not conducive to offering a good opportunity to catch fish, the Captain will cancel the trip. If the fishing conditions are neither unsafe or unfishable but could potentially cause problems for the party, the Captain will thoroughly explain the circumstances and leave it up to the party to decide if they would feel comfortable in the conditions. “If the wind is blowin’, we shouldn’t be goin’”.

What if the trip is cancelled due to bad weather?

If the trip is cancelled due to bad weather, you will be given an opportunity to reschedule the trip for an available date or you will be given a 100% refund.

What can I do to avoid sea sickness?

There is no cure-all for sea sickness. Some are naturally more prone than others. I suggest you take a Dramamine motion sickness pill with dinner the evening prior to your fishing trip and then 1/2 of a pill with a light breakfast on the morning of your trip. Taking more pills WILL NOT be any more effective and will cause you to be very drowsy and lethargic

What should I bring?

You are responsible for bringing your own personal items such as food and drink (and a cooler to store them in), hats, sunscreen, wind breaker, non-skid shoes. Beer in moderation is permitted. All fishing equipment and related fishing items will be provided.

Who cleans the fish?

If you are interested in keeping fish to eat, Our mate will gladly clean your catch within reasonable limits. If you choose to load the freezer for the next millennium, a cleaning charge of $.25/pound will be offered.

What happens if I get sea sick?

Despite how you may feel, it is not the end of the world. The best thing you can do is to stay in the fresh air. If you feel like you will vomit, it is best to go ahead as you will feel dramatically better afterwards. If you do not wish to endure the sea sickness, you can instruct the Captain to take you back at any time. This is your trip and you make the call. Your crew is there for your pleasure and comfort. We do not combine trips with different groups because all may not agree on staying or leaving should someone get sick.

Do you take children?

Yes. Children are welcome on board the boats. It is your discretion as to whether you think a child is suitable for the environment. Kids are required to wear a life jacket (see below)and we suggest you bring one that they are comfortable wearing. Inflatable (they inflate themselves if and when you go in the water) PFD’s are available for adults. Adult PFD’s as required by the Coast Guard are always on board. If kids have their own life jackets, they need to bring them. Our inflatables are for age 16 and up. Otherwise they will have to wear the old timey emergency style on board. Here is the law concerning PFD’s:

North Carolina

• What age must wear PFD: Children under the age of 13.
• Vessel Length: All lengths.
• When PFD Must be Worn: When underway on a recreational vessel.
• Approved PFD Styles: USCG Approved, must fit properly and be in good condition.
