About This Fishing Charter

The world renown Deep-sea Fishing Charter experience, right here in Cape Town, South Africa.

Since 1993 we've built an enviable reputation for catching fish, proving that "we don't just take you fishing,.... we take you catching"

Rob Naysmith, (also effectionalely known as 'CAPT. BOB'), of Offshore Sportfishing Charters has been the tried and trusted fishing charter operator in Cape Town since 1993.  That's a formidable 20 years in the business that few others, if any, can boast, and with that pedigree comes a wealth on knowledge on local fishing conditions, when the best times are to catch the fish of your choice, and exactly where to take you.  Our enviable history of catching fish is legendry in Cape waters, but we are most proud of the large numbers of fish we release for future generations.

Corsair offers the ultimate in comfort and spaciousness with cabins, shower and toilets up front and large air-conditioned saloon complete with fitted galley, ample seating, TV and music system.

She has a fly-bridge and spacious deck area, when you' don't have a line in the water, one can relax and enjoy sundowners, barbecue, sun tan, or get a great view of Dolphins, Penguins, Whales and Seals.

Twin 450hp in-board diesel engines power this magnificent vessel and, being specifically designed to take on any weather in the Cape, she gives a safe, comfortable ride. She has become very well known for her regular outstanding catches of Tuna as well as Swordfish.

All our vessels undergo an annual safety survey by the South African Maritime Safety Authority and carry a comprehensive range of safety equipment at all times. The skipper also carries out a through inspection of his vessel, equipment and motors before proceeding to sea.

Equipped with the latest GPS navigation equipment the boats are able to run an accurate course to their destination, estimate arrival times and avoid any known obstacles. Radar enables the boats to safely navigate through the fog and at night or periods of zero visibility.

Through VHF, CB and S.S.B. marine radios a constant contact is maintained with the land stations at Cape Point and Scarborough as well as vessels at sea. Each boat is logged out on its departure and logged back on its return ensuring a constant monitoring of the vessel during the trip.

All our skippers are highly competent and accomplished in all aspects of marine navigation, safety, survival and vessel maintenance. Our skippers carry the South African Maritime Safety Authority and South African Deep Sea Angling Association certificates of competency for vessels under their command.

We are proud to have AFRICA’S FIRST IGFA CERTIFIED Captain – Rob Naysmith

Being highly rated as deep-sea fishermen, they are able to offer the most comprehensive service and assistance necessary to both the accomplished and novice angler. They remain in close contact with the commercial fleet for the latest fishing information and monitor weather patterns to enable them to predict the best possible areas for you to catch your dream fish. With a through knowledge of the Cape coast they are able to take you to places and sights you never believed existed.

Their close interaction with the marine environment will afford you the opportunity to experience oceanic life you may only see in pictures.

Our boats are equipped with the latest rods, reels, lures and tackle. The client is welcome to bring their own equipment and this is encouraged if the search is for world line-class record fish. For the serious angler we cater for all IGFA line classes from 2kg through to 34 kg. Should a specific line class be required for the day, we need to be advised in advance.

Our reels, Penn International and Shimano TLD series, are of the lever drag type to stand up to the punishment of a big fish. Lines are checked and changed after each days fishing and all rods and reels are thoroughly serviced on a monthly basis. Lure manufacturers worldwide often use our boats to test their new designs and developments. We are therefore able to fish the very latest in lure technology giving our clients that extra edge.

All tackle is rigged in advance by the crew and constant changes are carried out during the day should the need arise. The crew prepares baits, chum (burley) and traces on route to the fishing grounds so fishing begins as soon as we arrive.
